Project Manager At Peace Winds Japan

Peace Winds Japan (PWJ; https://peace-winds.org/en/) is a non-governmental humanitarian organization dedicated to the support of people in distress and threatened by conflict, poverty, or other turmoil. PWJ is currently implementing a humanitarian programme in Ukraine and Moldova via local partners which covers the sectors of Health (medical supplies to Ukraine), Protection, Food, NFI as well as MHPSS, with high possibility to expand/change. PWJ envisions to set up an operation hub inside of Ukraine as soon as possible.

  • Position: Project Manager (1 vacancy; consultancy contract)
  • Duty station: TBC, Ukraine (Ability to attend coordination meetings in Lviv and/or monitoring activities for partners in Kyiv in person is preferred)
  • Period: 6 months (extendable) starting immediately
  • Compensation: Salary and benefits/allowances in accordance with the organization policy

Responsibilities:

  • Overall project management: Provide direction and guidance to project team, contractors and consultants to ensure the project outputs are achieved; Liaise with local partners, as needed; Organize regular meetings for the project team members to assess work progress, discuss challenges and constraints, and provide guidance and support; Develop a Monitoring & Communication Plan for the project, in close coordination with the Country Representative; Ensure systematic and effective implementation and monitoring of the projects
  • Running a project: Plan the activities of the project and monitor progress in close coordination with Country Representative; Manage in close coordination with the Country representative, day to day administrative and operations matters; Monitor financial resources and accounting to ensure accuracy and reliability of financial reports; Local partner management (including communication, documentation and monitoring); Manage and monitor the project risks as initially identified in the Project Document, submit new risks to Country representative for consideration and decision on possible actions if required; update the status of these risks; Prepare the Project Weekly Progress Report (progress against planned activities, update on Risks and Issues, expenditures) and submit the report to Country representative; Prepare monthly reports as well as donor reports as required, and submit to Country representative.
  • Any other tasks required for increasing program quality.

Qualifications:

  • At least Master’s degree or equivalent (desirably in social science, management, business, public administration, or related fields);
  • Professionally proficient in spoken and written English and Ukrainian
  • Relevant professional record (proposal/budget writing, institutional fundraising, etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to carry out work independently with attention to details;
  • Demonstrated ability to form constructive engagement with project stakeholders and donors; and
  • Excellent skills in interpersonal, oral/written communications and presentation.

Assets:

  • Working knowledge and understanding of Humanitarian Principles and on Humanitarian Standards;
  • Public speaking ability, such as through presentations, workshops, trainings;
  • Demonstrated competence in multi-tasking, working in a fast-paced environment, strategic thinking, and delivery of measurable results; and
  • Japanese language skills **
