The Finnish Red Cross (FRC) is part of the Red Cross Red Crescent (RCRC) Movement, the world’s largest humanitarian network with millions of volunteers and staff operating in 191 countries. FRC is seeking a Project Manager – Delegate (Sexual and Reproductive Health/SRH Project) for the West Africa team. The position will be for two-years fixed-term and placed in Niamey, Niger (includes frequent travels to remote project implementation areas). Starting date is negotiable, preferably in the beginning of February 2024. Fluent written and spoken English and French required.
Key Responsibilities
As a Program Delegate, you’ll play have a crucial role in the timely and quality implementation of our Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) project in collaboration with the Niger Red Cross and under the umbrella of the Danish Red Cross. This involves managing project activities, documenting lessons learned, ensuring data collection and analysis, and contributing to narrative and financial reporting. Note: Frequent travels to remote project implementation areas are integral to this role.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Project Management:
- Operational Delivery: Ensure day-to-day management and coordination, supporting NRC staff, monitoring activities, and facilitating clear reporting.
- Quality and Impact: Provide technical support, facilitate expertise delivery, and foster a culture of relevance and quality.
- Budget and Financial Management: Ensure sound financial management, support budget planning, and facilitate timely financial reporting.
- Monitoring, Reporting, and Learning:
- Prepare and train staff on project design and monitoring.
- Implement the project indicator tracking system, analyze data, and adapt the project as needed.
- Lead external report writing and proactively report potential issues.
- Stakeholder Management:
- Build and maintain constructive relationships with NRC counterparts and stakeholders.
- Facilitate effective communication and collaboration, representing the project in various forums.
- National Society Development:
- Understand NRC capacities and needs, identify areas of support, and facilitate capacity building.
- Identify and facilitate relevant NSD activities in line with NRC policies.
- Other Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide support to emergency operations, explore new funding opportunities, and contribute to DRC-FRC communications.
- Flexibly support sudden needs or capacity gaps within the country team.

What we expect from you

Requirements:
- University-level degree in a relevant field (project management/MBA; public health management, development studies, or economics).
- 5 years of professional experience in development cooperation and/or humanitarian aid, with specific experience in managing health/SRH projects.
- Fluent in written and spoken English and French.
- Ability to work as a distance team member with good stress management skills.
Skills and Knowledge:
- Excellent skills in producing technical and analytical reports.
- In-depth knowledge of program cycle management.
- Familiarity with the principles of results-based management.
Competencies:
- Standard for all delegate positions: National Society relations, Teamwork, Results-focused, Communication, Building trust, Integrity, Diversity and Cultural sensitivity.
- Specific for this position: Self-motivated, Critical and analytical mindset, Excellent coordination and negotiation skills, Strong time management, Ability to frequently travel to the implementation area (at least 6 times per year, trips of 1 to 4 weeks in a low-resource setting).
