ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
The Project Manager for Maldives will assist the Program Manager for Asia, Programme Officer for Asia and other members of the Program Management Unit (PMU) to oversee project activities and ensure effective program implementation. The Project Manager, based in Malé, provides direct programmatic, financial, and operational oversight and accountability for delivery of the project. The Project Manager will line manage the Administrative & Financial Officer and provide project-related leadership and direction to the Programme Support, Monitoring & Evaluation team, and program partners. The Project Manager ensures delivery of activities according to the contract throughout the project lifecycle and delivers/oversees all donor and external reporting requirements.
GENERAL FUNCTION
Under the supervision of the Program Manager for Asia, the Project Manager for Maldives will serve as Internews’ primary representative in the Maldives and liaise on with Internews’ partners and other stakeholders to support program implementation and business development for Internews work in the Maldives.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Manage planning, implementation and reporting of the project as delegated by the Program Manager for Asia;
- Responsible for timely execution of project activities as planned;
- Liaise on with Internews’ implementation partners on program implementation;
- Liaise with donors in-country as delegated;
- Identify in-country contractors and trainers to support activities;
- Monitor progress of project activities in line with set monitoring and evaluation plans;
- Coordinate project assessments, surveys and monitoring and evaluation activities as needed;
- Cultivate relationships with stakeholders in the media, civil society, and the international development community;
- Produce weekly reports outlining news, operational and programmatic updates;
- Lead on or contribute to donor reporting requirements;
- Support in the design of and development of business development opportunities for new programs;
- Assist in timely collection of information as requested and in line with donor reporting requirements;
- Manage logistics for travel, meetings, including procurement of visas as needed;
- Coordinate with the finance team to ensure collection of necessary financial documents and adherence to donor financial requirements;
- Manage administrative tasks in accordance with project timelines;
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 5 years program management experience, preferably in the media sector
- Relevant university degree
- Proficiency in Dhivehi is a requirement
- Professional command of English language skills is required
- Legally authorized to live and work in the Maldives
- Good understanding of project management and monitoring and evaluation processes
- Experience working with international donors and donor-funded programs is preferred
- Experience in reports and proposal writing is preferred
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills including diplomacy, tact, and the ability to negotiate
- Excellent communication skills: speaking, writing, and listening
- Proven ability to set priorities and manage time effectively
- Proven analytical and problem-solving ability
- Proven ability to work both independently and as an effective team member
- Proven ability to prioritize and handle multiple on-going assignments
- Proficient in MS Office

Many cities where the duties of this job are performed have less than adequate heating and/or electric facilities, lack hot water, heat, and gas.
Work hours are moderately flexible, but generally Monday through Friday from 9 am to 5 pm.
