About MiCT

MiCT (Media in Cooperation and Transition) is a non-profit organization specializing in media development, journalism training, and promoting media freedom in conflict-affected regions. MiCT empowers journalists to create impactful stories, contributing to democratic discourse and fostering independent media voices.

Position Summary

The Project Manager for MiCT Fellowship for Critical Voices will be responsible for overseeing a protection program for at-risk journalists from the Middle East and North Africa, many of whom are working under challenging and dangerous conditions, with some operating in exile. This role requires a skilled manager with experience in media development, familiarity with the local media landscapes, and sensitivity to the security concerns of journalists working under threat.

Key Responsibilities

1. Project Management

  • Develop, implement, and oversee MiCT project activities in the region, ensuring alignment with MiCT’s mission and the Fellowship’s objectives.
  • Collaborate with media outlets, journalists, and partners to identify and address their needs, ensure clear communication, prepare contracts, and compile and report project results.
  • Monthly Project and activity reporting, as well as contributions to interim and final narrative reports

2. Partnership and Network Building

  • Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with organizations, media outlets, and institutions that support and promote media freedom in the region.
  • Engage diverse stakeholders and create a network of support for the cohort’s activities and safety.

3. Organizational and Administrative Support

  • Coordinate and support the community managers and case workers in touch with the Fellows
  • Work closely with the Berlin-based finance and admin teams to manage financial workflows, contracts, and reporting.
  • Participation in weekly coordinating global meetings

4. Strategic Guidance and Regional Insight

  • Strategic guidance on trainings, events, and administrative tasks associated with the Fellowship program.
  • Provide ongoing strategic insights on the media landscapes in the Middle East and North Africa
  • Offer security and professional advice to support MiCT’s mission and guide the development of new concepts and projects for media freedom and journalist safety in the region.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Experience: Proven experience in project or program management, ideally in media development, journalism, or humanitarian support sectors.
  • Regional Expertise: In-depth knowledge of the media landscapes and challenges in the Middle East and North Africa
  • Networking Skills: Strong ability to build partnerships and engage a diverse range of stakeholders, with established networks in the media sector.
  • Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; fluency in English and Arabic is required, knowledge of German an asset.
  • Passion and Commitment: Strong commitment to media freedom, human rights, and empowering independent journalists.

Contract and Compensation

This freelance role is project-based, contingent on the grant. MiCT offers a flexible work environment with a workspace in Berlin, Beirut or Tunis for the manager’s use.
