The minimum requirements include:

  • University Studies (Closed Pensum) in Agronomy Engineering, Land Administration Engineering, Forestry Engineering, Social Work, Political and Social Sciences or related field.
  • 5 years of experience in addressing agrarian, social and environmental issues in Rural Development Projects focused on Youth. Knowledge of agrarian policies, institutional strengthening, social audit and citizen participation.
  • Experience in the implementation of Community Development Projects, especially in strengthening the development council system, social audit, gender, violence prevention, resolution of agrarian conflicts.
  • Extensive experience in mediation for the resolution and transformation of agrarian conflicts.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of training plans aimed at organizations and community leaders.
  • Experience in supervising personnel, working in partnerships and institutional networks.
  • Experience in writing reports, managing budgets, monitoring and evaluating Projects.
  • Knowledge of agrarian problems in Guatemala, mainly in the Verapaces area.
  • Knowledge of mediation, conciliation and negotiation of land conflicts.
  • Strong knowledge of community development principles, rights-based approach; respect for the principles of participation, inclusion, and responsibility towards Project participants.
  • Skill in the use of surveying technology (Total Station, GPS) to carry out projects that are the basis of analysis in the resolution of agrarian conflicts. Technical Certification in surveying, essential.
  • Ability to work as a team and ability to use dialogue as a tool for conflict transformation.
  • Mastery of the language of the Q’eqchi’-Spanish region, essential. Basic knowledge of the English language.
  • Valid license to drive a two- and four-wheel vehicle.
  • Skill and command of Office and Microsoft Windows packages / Google Drive / Dropbox / others.
  • Availability to stay in Santa Catalina la Tinta, with mobilization to the Polochic region: San Miguel Tucurú, Santa Catalina la Tinta, San Antonio Senahú and Panzós in the Department of Alta Verapaz and El Estor, in the Department of Izabal.

Main functions include:

  • Responsible for ensuring adequate management of the Project (time, financial resources and scope), establishing effective coordination with partners.
  • Monitoring of the process of identification, training and consolidation of the Polochic youth peace network.
  • Ensure the implementation of the public communication and information campaign to promote a culture of peace.
  • Participatively design a territorial strategy to address conflict and governance in the Polochic Valley.
