DW Akademie is seeking for the office in Kampala, Uganda as of 1 August 2024 or as soon as possible a Project Officer (f/m/d) Media Development Uganda based on a full-time local staff contract limited until 31 October 2027.
YOUR CHALLENGES
- support in the planning and implementation of the EU-funded project “Amplifying voices – enhancing dialogue: Promoting public accountability and transparency through media in Uganda”
- coordinate with media practitioners, local radio stations, CSOs, and government officials to ensure effective implementation of project activities and support partner organizations and service providers in the delivery of activities
- work closely with the Project Manager and other team members based in Uganda and Germany to align project activities with overall objectives and timelines
- support the development and adaptation of reference and training materials for media practitioners and project partners, and brief and support trainers and consultants
- support the organization and facilitation of training sessions, workshops, and peer-to-peer exchanges to enhance the capacities of local media outlets and community reporters
- assist in the monitoring and evaluation of project activities to ensure they meet expected outcomes and impact; collect and analyze data on the progress of activities, providing regular updates and reports to the Project Manager and the Program Director
- provide administrative support for project activities, including in budget management and financial reporting, logistical arrangements, documentation, and record-keeping
- collaborate with the communication team to highlight the project’s impact and visibility
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- undergraduate degree (Bachelor) in social sciences, communication, media studies, project management, or related fields
- several years of professional experience in project implementation, preferably in governance, media development, or related areas
- strong knowledge and understanding of the Ugandan media landscape, with a focus on rural media outlets, media viability, constructive dialogue, and/or public accountability and transparency in Uganda
- practical journalistic experience desirable; experience as a trainer/facilitator an asset
- experience working with diverse internal and external stakeholders with excellent interpersonal and coordination skills
- excellent planning and organization skills with the ability to work under pressure and towards tight deadlines
- strong communication skills with professional language fluency in English; knowledge of local languages an advantage
- high level of intercultural competence and respect for diversity
