DRC Greece is looking to recruit a qualified and enthusiastic professional to work in North Greece as Protection Assistant. Under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader, under the overall management of the Field Protection Manager, and in close cooperation with other Protection colleagues, DRC field units and other relevant actors in the area of the North, the Protection Assistant will be 100% field based, develop and maintain good relations with the persons of concern and will support the implementation of DRC’s protection objectives and activities to provide timely and effective protection to persons of concern under DRC projects in the open accommodation sites.

The Protection Assistant responsibilities will include, but not necessarily be limited to the following:
- Support the implementation of general protection activities in accordance with agreed objectives.
- Collect data, identify and document the needs of the persons of concern.
- Participate in awareness raising sessions and information campaigns for persons of concern.
- Provide appropriate and relevant information to refugees and migrants regarding their rights and services available to them.
- Participate in (joint) assessments, identifying protection concerns and reporting for informed based interventions.
- Support mapping of services and development of effective referral pathways.
- Identify vulnerable individuals and facilitate appropriate action, including referrals to specialized services and accompaniment as necessary.
- Support DRC distribution activities ensuring vulnerable individuals are identified and fast tracked for assistance.
- Participate in population profiling and verification exercises to ensure adequate and relevant data collection.
- Encourage, support and monitor community-based protection networks in the emergency reception sites.
- Provide input on case studies, best practices and lessons learned from each of the activities implemented.
- Provide translation/interpretation as necessary.
- Any other duties as may be assigned by the line manager, relevant to the achievement of Protection objectives.
Collaboration and supervision
- Report any major issues to the protection management.
- Collaborate with DRC colleagues to resolve problems and issues as they arise.
- Ensure the observance of the DRC Code of Conduct throughout activity implementation.
About you
To be successful in the role we expect you to possess the following:
- Minimum 1 year of previous experience with refugees and asylum seekers is required.
- Fluency in written and spoken English is required.
- Fluency in French language is required.
- Strong computer skills are required.
- University degree in Social Sciences, Law, Refugee and Migration studies, International Relations, Psychology is highly appreciated.
- Knowledge in any of the following languages: Arabic and/or Kurdish (Kurmanji/Sorani) and/or Farsi/Dari is a strong asset.
- Greek language skills are a strong added value.
- Experience of community-based or community mobilisation work in a humanitarian context and/or experience with protection tools and monitoring is an asset.
- Previous working experience with local or international NGOs as well as experience in refugee sites or shelters will be considered as a strong advantage.
