Protection Mainstreaming Training Consultant (Remote) At Global Communities

Global Communities is implementing the USAID-funded Paradelante program to support highly vulnerable and food insecure households in the Huehuetenango Department of Guatemala who are facing the triple shocks of sequential droughts, COVID-19 related income restrictions, and recent hurricane damages, to recover from these shocks through improved food security, health services and livelihood opportunities. Global Communities is looking for a consultant to provide training to Paradelante non-protection staff on Protection Mainstreaming (Do No Harm, Accountability to Affected Populations, Participation & Empowerment and Meaningful Access & Non-Discrimination), GBV risk mitigation, and PSEA/Safeguarding. Training sessions will be participatory, engaging staff in discussions to identify risk as well as mitigation/prevention measures according to their experience and program context.

The consultant will provide remote training for an estimated 15 staff on Protection Mainstreaming principles, in line with USAID/Bureau of Humanitarian Assistance (BHA) and Global Protection Cluster guidelines. As well, this will include a ToT approach of preparing a cadre of internal trainers to cascade these trainings. The consultant reports to the Senior Advisor of Global Protection at Global Communities. The Consultant Level of Effort will be up to 12 days, starting as soon as possible.

  • 5 days training materials
  • 3 days training
  • 1 day wrap-up sessions
  • 3 days writing report

The successful candidate is fluent in Spanish, has experience training others in complex concepts in Spanish, and has experience in emergency response, capacity building, and protection programming and/or mainstreaming.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Adapt/Develop two training modules, based on BHA and GPC guidelines and tailored to the Paradelante program targeting the following groups:
    • 3-day in-depth module for staff responsible for designing and driving activities, or with management responsibilities.
    • 1/2 day introductory module for staff responsible for implementing activities, whose roles brings them into direct contact with program participants and community members.
    • 1/2 day module for cascading, focused on how to train others on the material.
  • Facilitate 3-day in-depth module remotely with selected GC staff.
  • Summarize the discussions with staff to identify key program risks, knowledge gaps, and priority recommendations, to include those provided by staff.
  • Provide a summary report and wrap up meeting with management.

DELIVERABLES

  • Final training package, including PPTs, handouts, pre/post-tests and evaluation forms for two groups:
  • 3-day in-depth training.
  • 1/2-day introductory training.
  • Tip sheet for facilitators
  • Final training report to include:
    • attendance lists.
    • pre/post-training survey focusing on the efficacy of the instruction approach, quality of the training materials, and remaining gaps/recommendations for further capacity development.
    • key risks and knowledge gaps for GC follow-up.
    • priority recommendations for mainstreaming protection.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of humanitarian, protection, gender, and social inclusion principles and standards, including Sphere Standards, Protection Mainstreaming, GBV Risk Mitigation, Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse
  • Strong knowledge of BHA guidelines, in particular Mandatory Cross-Sectoral Guidance on Protection Mainstreaming, Gender Analysis & Integration, and Age and Disability
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills and high level of organization and attention to detail.
  • Excellent interpersonal and listening skills, including ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work in a cross-cultural, geographically-dispersed team environment.
  • Fluency in English and Spanish, written and oral, including experience training and facilitating in Spanish
  • Proficient in Microsoft PowerPoint and other presentation visuals.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Undergraduate degree in a related discipline and a minimum of three years of related work experience or six years of related work experience.
  • Minimum of three years’ field experience in protection programming and/or policy.
  • Commitment to the principles of confidentiality, survivor safety, and Do No Harm
  • Demonstrated experience developing and facilitating training on protection topics.
