PSS and Child Protection Officer At War Child Holland

Objective of the Role

The PSS and Child Protection Officer is responsible for following up on child protection programs within WCH in line with child protection quality standards, building the capacity of partners, and ensuring effective delivery of CP and PSS activities.

Position within the Organisation

The PSS and Child Protection Officer is part of the Program team and reports directly to OCHA Project Coordinator .

The role holder coordinates with program implementation team members, and with other key functions within the Country Office.

Result Areas

Development and follow up of PSS and child protection activities in line with CP standards and policies:

· Work closely with partner child protection staff, including case workers and social workers, to identify child protection issues and inform evidence-based programming.

· Assist in designing and developing child protection programmes and activities within WCH programme strategy.

· Regular follow up with partner focal points on project activities, to maintain the quality of implementation of child protection activities, identify opportunities and constraints and any adjustments needed, including additional staffing or staff training.

· Support implementation of WCH Child Safety and safeguarding policies internally and externally with partners.

· Follow up up with the project partners on the PSS activities implementation

Delivery of child protection capacity building:

· Assist the regional CP advisor in assessing and designing child protection capacity building plans for staff and partners.

· Deliver child protection coaching and monitoring sessions, trainings and briefings, including tailored trainings where needed and feasible, to staff and partners.

· Provide ongoing and necessary technical support, guidance and advice to programme staff and partners in the field of child protection, including child safe

· Support staff and partners in the development and implementation of child safety checklists and child safeguarding policy, and other tools.

· Deliver child safety and safeguarding briefings when needed to external visitors and new staff, in coordination with the national CSG focal point

Internal and external coordination and representation:

· Coordinate with other team members, mainly PSS and Education teams, to ensure that child protection connects and is mainstreamed into other WCH areas of work.

· When needed, backstop the team in WCH, in relevant platforms/networks focused on child protection themes, including child protection sub-clusters, technical working groups.

· Participate when needed in internal child protection meetings with, regional and global colleagues.

· Contribute to the development/revision of PSS and child protection materials, in line with contextualised inputs from working groups/platforms/networks.

· Share child protection material and other useful and relevant information, including tools and methodologies, with staff and partners.

Knowledge and Experience

· Relevant academic background (Social Sciences / International Development Studies)

· Knowledge of current principles and practices of Child Safefuardingand Child Protection and PSS implementation.

· Understanding of child rights (programming) in conflict and post conflict environments

· Minimum 3 years (I)NGO work in developing countries / conflict areas, preferably with children

· Minimum 1 year in the field of CP, PSS and programme implementation

· Demonstrated engagement with local partners, and experience in building capacity in Child Protection

· Competent written and spoken English and fluent Arabic

· Strong critical analysis and strategic thinking skills

· Planning and coordination ability

· Understanding of child-focused monitoring and evaluation processes

· Ability to provide (creative/interactive) trainings

· Excellent communication skills; ability to give and receive feedback

· Affinity with children and young people

· Cultural sensitivity
