Context

SoCha, LLC is responding to an impact evaluation of the Girls’ Learning and Empowerment Project commissioned by the World Bank in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The evaluation will take place in Kasai Province.

We are looking for a highly qualified Psychosocial Support Advisor to support the impact evaluation of a girls’ education project in the DRC. The advisor will bring expertise in gender inequality, gender-based violence (GBV) and psychosocial support, ensuring that the evaluation is conducted in an ethical and trauma-sensitive manner. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in providing psychological support to survivors of sexual violence and a solid understanding of the DRC context, particularly as it relates to the challenges of gender-based violence and education.

Missions and responsibilities

Working under the supervision of the Head of Mission, the Psychosocial Support Advisor will perform the following tasks:

  • Provide psychosocial expertise to guide impact evaluation, ensuring that data collection and analysis adopt ethical and trauma-sensitive approaches.
  • Provide advice on gender and GBV considerations, integrating survivor-centred methodologies into assessment design.
  • Support the training of census agents, ensuring that field teams are prepared to engage with vulnerable populations, particularly victims of violence, in an ethical and supportive manner.
  • Review data collection tools to ensure they are responsive to psychosocial and gender issues.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop referral mechanisms for participants who may require psychosocial support during the assessment.
  • Provide direct advice on managing conflict situations in the field and ensure appropriate responses to disclosures of violence or trauma.
  • Collaborate with local service providers, facilitating links between assessment participants and existing support services.
  • Contribute to reports and recommendations, ensuring that findings reflect the lived experiences of girls affected by gender-based violence and other psychosocial challenges in education.

Qualifications and experience required

  • University degree (BAC+3) in psychology, social work, gender studies, public health or a similar field.
  • Have a good knowledge of the issue of M/F inequalities and gender-based violence.
  • 5 years of experience in providing psychological support to victims of sexual violence.
  • Experience in impact assessments, research studies or development projects is an asset.
  • Expertise in trauma-informed approaches and ethical considerations in research with vulnerable populations.
  • Fluency in French and local languages ​​(e.g. Tshiluba) is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams and diverse stakeholders.
