JOB BRIEF

The Publications Production Coordinator provides typesetting and page layout of USIP reports, publications, books, and other collateral for print and electronic publication. The role will serve as the focal point and coordinator of production processes for USIP publications. The Production Coordinator will ensure that products and collateral adhere to industry standards and USIP’s policies. This position reports to the Director or Publications.

TARGET SALARY RANGE

Grade 9 – $61,000 – $64,000

The Institute uses the General Schedule salary tables for administering compensation. Offers are determined based upon candidate qualifications, related experience, internal equity, and the amount budgeted for the position.

RESPONSIBILITIES
* Coordinates the production workflows of print, digital, and web-based publishing projects, from concept to completion to archiving; includes editing, budgeting, scheduling, and tracking for reporting purposes.
* In collaboration with the Publications team develops project requirements, timelines, and specifications for internal and external distribution, plus maintains formal procedural documents.
* Formats text, photos, and graphics into complete typeset products using established layouts and templates in Adobe InDesign.
* Research options for photos and graphics of topical relevance for specific products, using input from the Senior Publications Design Specialist and feedback from authors, editors, and project teams.
* Reviews art files and proofs at all stages of the publication process to ensure products meet high-quality publishing standards.
* Produces final files suitable for print and online publication, and packages archived files to prepare products for print-on-demand, reprints, and translations.
* Assists with updating database records, tracking production schedules, monitoring cost estimates, and organizing project files.
* Maintains publication visual style guides and templates, in consultation with Senior Publications Design Specialist and USIP’s Public Affairs and Communications (PAC) team.

Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
* Bachelor’s degree in graphic design or publishing, plus three (3) years of experience in a professional publishing environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required.
* Highly skilled in Adobe Creative and MicroSoft Office Suites (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Excel, Acrobat, and Word).
* Knowledge of typesetting, design, and commercial printing and binding, and must provide portfolio of prior work demonstrating this knowledge.
* Demonstrated ability of managing multiple, concurrent projects successfully, including scheduling and costing.
* Strong interpersonal and communication skills to provide excellent customer service.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with teams and on various projects.
* Familiarity with proofreader’s marks, publishing terminology, and Chicago and AP style.
* Experience in producing engaging infographics for print, web, and mobile platforms, preferred.
* Self-motivated with a demonstrated ability to develop working relationships and strong interpersonal, verbal and written cross-culture communication skills.
