To strengthen midwives’ associations and to advance the profession of midwifery globally by promoting autonomous midwives as the most appropriate caregivers for childbearing women and in keeping birth normal, to enhance the sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, and adolescent health of women and gender diverse people.

Purpose and Scope of the Position

The PUSH Campaign is ICM’s global campaigning arm, championing a global movement for women and the midwives who protect and uphold their rights and bodily autonomy. The goal of the PUSH Campaign is to advance sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), address key barriers to women’s leadership in the global health workforce, and shift underlying gender norms that undervalue women’s rights, lives, and work.

The PUSH Campaign Lead sits within ICM’s Advocacy and Communications team and is responsible for developing the 2024-26 Campaign strategy, together with other members of the ICM team, leading the campaign implementation, managing the relationships and partners involved and engaging relevant contractors as required. They will work with ICM colleagues and consultants to deliver the full scope of activity to deliver the campaign, working closely with partners to ensure its success.

Role Specific Responsibilities

Reporting to the Head of Advocacy and Communications, the position holder will be responsible for the following:

Global Advocacy Strategy

  • In collaboration with the Head of the Advocacy and Communications Team, and with input from other team members, lead on the development and implementation of the 2024-6 PUSH Advocacy Campaign Strategy, with corresponding monitoring and evaluation,
  • Conceptualise campaign to generate awareness of midwives and midwifery and their contributions to the health and wellbeing of women and gender diverse people, newborns, families, and communities,
  • Manage PUSH components of ICM’s relationships with partners and funders, researching and facilitating opportunities to build new partnerships,
  • Play a leading role creating and maintaining relationships in the sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, and adolescent health (SRMNAH) space to ensure advocacy objectives,
  • Develop/coordinate any joint policy/advocacy projects with key stakeholders as required,
  • Leverage the expertise and networks of ICM’s member associations globally, collaboratively expanding their capacity to help deliver on campaign goals.
  • Strategically grow the Campaign team, identifying needs and collaborating to bring on new team members.

Technical Advocacy Support

  • Develop advocacy plans and communication and public relations tools to support these strategies,
  • Develop resources, presentations and trainings and tools to support advocacy capacity building of midwives and midwives’ associations. This may include campaigning toolkits, policy briefs, webinars, etc.,
  • Adapt global documents and data for use to support the Campaign.

Communications and Media Relations

  • Lead on the development of PUSH newsletter and social media content in line with communications strategy and brand guidelines,
  • Develop long-form content such as regular newsletter sections, articles, and blog posts,
  • Develop media plans as part of campaign strategies (e.g. thought leadership),
  • Pitch stories to journalists and outlets,
  • Manage and update media contact list.

Events

  • Lead on planning and implementation of strategic Campaign presence at global events,
  • Support midwives’ associations to embed Campaign strategies in their own events.

Person Specification

The following requirements will be measured as part of the assessment and selection progress:

Education & Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in communications, social studies, women’s studies, human rights or similar strongly preferred,
  • Minimum five years’ experience in the sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, adolescent health, feminist, or global health space,
  • Fluency in English (ICM’s working language).

Experience and Knowledge

  • Strategic thinking and planning abilities to design and implement effective advocacy strategies and campaigns,
  • Experience leading successful advocacy campaigns and coalitions,
  • Engaging communicator, facilitator, and presenter,
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills,
  • Flexibility and accountability needed for success in a small organisation, including partnering with others, collaborating with colleagues working remotely, and taking initiative,
  • Ability to be nimble and pivot in response to opportunities,
  • Demonstratable commitment to participative approaches, community engagement, equality, and diversity.

Desirable Requirements and Skills

  • Experience working in a global, multi-lingual, and diverse organisation,
  • Ability to speak Spanish and/or French.

Location
The role is based at ICM’s Head Office in The Hague with the possibility of a hybrid working model. Candidates must be based in the Netherlands and are eligible to work in the Netherlands.

Job grade and salary range
The position is a job grade 14 and the salary span for this role is between 3,262 EURO and 4,863 EURO (gross monthly salary excl. holiday pay) and will be based on the specific knowledge and experience of the candidate.

Work schedule
This position is a full-time position (40 hours per week). The working pattern will be agreed between the candidate and ICM and may vary to accommodate collaborators and stakeholders in other time zones. This position may require international travel, of approximately 20 days per annum.
