Malteser International (MI) is the international humanitarian aid organisation of the Sovereign Order of Malta. To support our Middle East regional team at our headquarters in Cologne, we are looking for a Middle East Officer (m/f/d) as soon as possible.
In the Middle East region, MI has been working in the context of the humanitarian crisis in Syria since 2012, carrying out emergency relief operations in Turkey, Syria and Lebanon, and since 2014 in Iraq. MI’s programs primarily address needs in the health sector and are mostly implemented by partners. MI is currently planning to work with its potential local partners in Israel/Palestine to implement humanitarian aid projects. The operational focus will be on food provision, access to health care and WASH.
Your tasks:
- Planning and management of humanitarian aid and development cooperation projects
- Development, monitoring, support and ensuring the quality of projects in our project countries in the Middle East (Israel/Palestine)
- Project application, reporting and proof of use to donors
- Ensuring the correct implementation of projects in accordance with the specifications and guidelines of the various donors and in close coordination with the project managers and project partners on site
- Support and advice for local project partners
- Support with public relations and lobbying work
- Selection, support and management of seconded project staff
Your profile:
- You have completed a university degree in a relevant subject area
- You have several years of professional experience in humanitarian aid and/or development cooperation with proven project experience in the Middle East, ideally in Israel/Palestine
- You have strong project management skills and are familiar with the strategic planning and implementation of donor-funded projects (Federal Foreign Office, BMZ, US donors or European Union, among others)
- Ideally, you have experience working with national partners and sector experience in emergency aid, health, WASH
- You bring a high level of personal commitment, flexibility, communication skills and willingness to work in a team
- You are willing to travel regularly on business at home and abroad
- You are fluent in German and English; knowledge of Arabic or Hebrew is a plus
