To support the International Office Region CEE/CIS/Middle East with this important responsibility we are now looking for a committed:

Regional Child Safeguarding Advisor CEE/CIS/Middle East (f/m)

Location: Amman, Jordan

Mission of the position:

The purpose of the position is to drive the area of Child Safeguarding (CS) in ME MAs. Support and monitor MAs in the implementation of the organizational standards, policy support documents and actions in the area of CS in in line with SOS Children’s Villages vision, mission and values; federation strategy; SOS Care Promise priorities and related strategic federation projects. Lead and/or coordinate regional projects in this area with a focus on ME MAs.

IOR CS Advisor provides capacity building and leads a network of national CS advisors and focal points in Middle East MAs, as well as a pool of Arabic speaking CS investigators.

Tasks and Responsibilities

Lead and steer implementation of CS:

  • Ensure support to member associations on implementation of the Child Protection Policy and related child safeguarding policy support documents and in cooperation with national child safeguarding focal persons monitor the implementation and compliance to International Child Safeguarding Standards
  • Provide technical guidance and capacity building to MA teams and monitors the MA’s work in the area of CS based on the minimum requirements of the policy support document on the CS investigation
  • Identify promising practices as well as key challenges in relation to Child Safeguarding Middle east Member associations
  • In coordination with the main clients, develop and facilitate training materials in line with the child safeguarding policy for ME MAs and regional office

Monitoring and evaluation:

  • Conduct Child Safeguarding audits in Ms
  • Monitor the implementation of the CS project within MAs and advise on the implementation whenever needed

Human Resources:

  • Contribute to the recruitment process for national CS teams and some CS regional positions as needed

Incident management:

  • Technically support MEMAs in incident management process
  • Technically support MA led investigations

CS responsibility:

  • Responsible within own area of work to raise awareness of the SOS Child Protection Policy principles and to prevent and protect children from all forms of abuse, abandonment, exploitation, violence and discrimination
  • Responsible to report any CS suspicion, concern, allegation or incident immediately following Child Safeguarding reporting procedures. CS reports should be made to the IOR CS focal person and/or to the respective line manager

Knowledge management:

  • Disseminate new policies and materials as they become available.
  • Facilitate internal and external knowledge sharing on Child Safeguarding with a strong focus on prevention and capacity building
  • Liaise with CS/ Safeguarding advisors/ focal points from other NGOs and UN agencies and contribute to Safeguarding Network whenever available

Requirements

  • Higher university degree education in social sciences, social pedagogy, social work, psychology or law
  • At least 5 years of work experience in the field of alternative child care, prevention of separation, child protection, and child safeguarding
  • Knowledge of child safeguarding standards and procedures
  • Experience in the management of safeguarding incidents and investigations
  • Strong experience in programme planning, monitoring and evaluation
  • Experience in organizing and holding workshops, meetings and trainings
  • Good understanding of the Middle East context
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Arabic
  • Readiness to travel at least 30% of working time
  • Strong communication, presentation, facilitation and interpersonal skills
  • Positive mindset, motivate and guide people by role-modelling
  • A strong team-player work ethic

This position involves working with an INGO committed to children and human rights and is subject to strict safer recruitment checks.
