Regional Director At Norwegian People’s Aid

NPA is seeking a Regional Director for our programmes in Latin America

The position is based under the NPA Department for Development and Humanitarian Cooperation (DHC). We work in partnership with local organisations with the aim to strengthen their capacity to fight for a more equitable distribution of power and resources in their communities. Currently, NPA DHC has programmes in 19 countries in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East.

NPA began working in Latin-America in 1983. NPA has programmes in 7 countries – Ecuador, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, El Salvador, Honduras and Guatemala. The regional team consist of 13 people and the regional office is placed in Ecuador. The main focus is to support people’s organisations in their work to influence policy and practice, including popular education, communication, feminisms and mobilisation.

Duty Station: Quito, Ecuador

In this position your main responsibilities will be:

  • Lead the Latin America team.
  • Provide strategic leadership and advice to the programme and NPA based on an updated context analysis.
  • Ensure that relevant strategies, policies, management systems and routines are in place and adhered to.
  • Overall responsibility for all personnel, including safety and security of NPA staff.
  • Ensure good working relationship with the national authorities, donors, international and local organisations.
  • Oversee plans, budget, financial and narrative reporting.
  • Stay updated and keep contact with relevant donors and develop fundraising initiatives.

To be succesfull in this role you must have:

  • Good trust- and value-based leadership skills to achieve results together with employees and partners.
  • Experience in managing diverse teams and programmes in complex settings outside your home country ·
  • Good political intuition and understanding of political processes.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in engagement and cooperation civil society organisations.
  • Experience in fund raising and donor relations.
  • Experience from working in Latin America.
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English and Spanish, Norwegian is an advantage.

In this position, the following personal qualifications are required:

We are looking for a candidate with good communication-, networking- and interpersonal skills. The ability and readiness to work under pressure and deal with difficult and complex conditions is also a prerequisite. Moreover, we are looking for an analytical, systematic and structured person, who is good at team work and dialogue as well as confident in delegating.

In general, we emphasize the importance of strong health, and you will need a medical «fit for duty» attestation from an NPA-approved health service to take up the position.
