The position is to be filled as of January 1, 2022, with an initial contract duration of two years. There are good prospects for an extension. Employment location will be Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, with frequent travel to other program countries in the West & Central Africa region.
As Regional Nutrition Advisor, you will assist country teams in West & Central Africa (WCA) by ensuring service-oriented program and project support through capacity building, consultancy services and backstopping regarding nutrition related subject matters, methods and instruments. Your area of responsibilty includes the development, promotion and maintenance of subject specific guidelines and minimum requirements for programs and projects in the WCA region. Additionally, you will ensure sector-specific knowledge as well as a good innovation and practice management in order to promote high project and program quality.
Your responsibilities
- Conduct activities to shape Welthungerhilfe’s profile in the nutrition sector in the WCA region as defined in the organisation’s global strategy
- Support country teams to keep Welthungerhilfe´s sector related knowledge and positions up to date in the relevant country specific approaches
- Systematically increase Welthungerhilfe´s skills and knowledge on nutrition with technical backstopping
- Enhance analytical competencies for proper project planning on “Programming Towards Improved Nutrition” by supporting country teams in Contextual Analysis of Nutrition (CAN) and planning appropriate interventions focused primarily on the prevention of malnutrition
- Support technical backstopping in selected countries to strengthen nutrition related M&E systems in cross-sectoral projects and programs
- Work as part of a cross-functional team to establish Welthungerhilfe’s nutrition approach in the WCA region
- Support country teams in adapting and further developing Welthungerhilfe’s country-specific nutrition frameworks in line with the global strategy, country-specific needs, and the international state of the art in the field
- Supervise and guide selected country offices and project offices in the proper planning and implementation of nutrition related activities
- Track developments in Welthungerhilfe´s nutrition profile (at program and project level) and organize cross-regional knowledge-exchange
- Conduct and organize trainings related in that field and further develop Welthungerhilfe’s conceptual approaches adjusted to the respective country specific context
- Represent Welthungerhilfe in the regional nutrition community and increase Welthungerhilfe´s visibility in the international nutrition community
Your profile
- A relevant Masters degree (MSc) in Nutrition/Public Health in developing countries
- At least 5 years’ experience working in nutrition programs in developing countries in West and Central Africa and Caribbean
- Programming and/or policy development experience in at least one of the following sectors: agriculture, water and sanitation, livelihoods
- Familiarity with methodologies for conducting a contextual analysis or scoping assessments on nutrition and nutrition surveys (SMART, KAP)
- Proven experience in nutrition-related social behavior change programs and conducting nutrition surveys/assessments
- Experience in conducting training and mentoring
- Field experience in emergency nutrition programming as well as in the prevention of malnutrition would be an asset
- Strong understanding of nutrition sensitive programming and nutrition-related M&E systems
- Ability to manage own work and to work under pressure
- Excellent communication skills and intercultural sensibility
- Excellent spoken and written English and French; proficiency in German language would be an advantage
