Regional Research and Evaluation Manager, Asia (Homebased in Asia) At Save the Children

The Opportunity

The Research and Evaluation (R&E) Manager is a senior member of the APAC R&E Unit. The primary role is to manage a small team of a team of R&E Specialists, Officers and Associates deployed to deliver studies for Save the Children.

The primary role of the R&E Manager is to:

  • Manage the R&E team,
  • Project manage large malti-country studies,
  • Lead the writing of research proposals, presentations and pitches, and
  • Secure research funding and projects for the team.

Key Responsibilities

RESEARCH AND EVALUATION (40% LOE)

Research and Evaluation Management

  • Manage a team of R&E Specialists and Officers responsible for the delivery of research, assessments and evaluation studies at the country, multi-country, regional and at times global level.
  • Monitor and quality assure studies conducted by the team to ensure they are delivered on time, to budget and to a high standard.
  • Project manage large multi-country studies to ensure they are designed collaboratively and delivered on time, to budget and to a high standard.
  • Provide technical advice to R&E team members with the design and implementation of complex and multi-country research, assessment and evaluation studies.
  • Ensure R&E team members are adhering to and applying best practice in research ethics, safeguarding and data protection/responsible data management policies, procedures and practices.
  • Promote a culture of ethical, inclusive and participatory research.

STRATEGIC LEADERSHIP (60% LOE)

Business reporting & continuous improvement

  • Support the R&E Director with R&E Unit Key Performance Indicator reporting.

Facilitate after action review with project teams upon the completion of work to optimize learning and improvement.

Partnerships, funding & new business

  • Monitor the R&E pipeline of opportunities and liaise with Save the Children offices to secure upcoming research, assessments and evaluations to be conducted by the R&E Unit.
  • Ensure ongoing communication with new business development and fundraising teams to ensure awareness of research and evidence priorities and to identify opportunities to include research activities in new awards and initiatives.
  • Lead the writing of research proposals, presentations and pitches.
  • Establish and maintain research partnerships with internal stakeholders and external universities, research agencies, think tanks and other organisations.
  • Monitor research funding opportunities and secure research funding.
  • Attract and win new business through competitive tendering and networking, pre-positioning and repeat business.
  • Manage and implement the R&E Unit partnerships and new business development strategy, including marketing and communications that raise the unit’s internal and external reputation as a Center of excellence in Evidence on Child Rights.
  • Participate in and develop internal and external research networks and Communities of Practice.

Manage the Evidence Advisory Network and database

Thought leadership and capacity building

Stay abreast of innovative, robust, credible and right-fit research methods.

  • Manage the SC R&E Community of Practice.
  • Manage and implement internal R&E Capacity Strengthening Strategy.
  • Coach, mentor and support R&E Unit colleagues in developing their research and evaluation skills.
  • Work effectively with large and diverse project teams comprised of Save the Children staff and external partners located in different countries and with multidisciplinary areas of expertise
