POSITION OVERVIEW/OBJECTIVE

The objective of this position is to move the organization closer to its financial and fundraising goals by finding fundraising opportunities, developing relationships with potential donors and other stakeholders (NGOs, NNGOS/LNGOS , United Nations Agencies) as well as writing proposals in the African Region. Under the direction of the Partnerships and Fundraising Advisor, the Position Manager will support the development of the capacity of country teams in fundraising efforts and strategies, the development and maintenance of partnerships as well as the administration of grants.

POSITION-RELATED RESPONSIBILITIES WITHIN THE ORGANIZATION

The Manager of this position is part of the Regional Platform and works closely with country teams, the global Institutional Funding & Grant Delivery (IFGD) team, fundraising member teams and other members of the War Child Alliance (WCA) team. He/She is responsible for mobilizing resources and supporting country teams on financing strategy and implementation, donor mapping and developing relationships with institutional donors. He/She is a shared resource for the War Child Africa region working across a portfolio of countries. (South Sudan, Uganda, Central African Republic (CAR), Burundi, DRC and Colombia). He/She will report to the Regional Advisor on Partnerships and Resource Mobilization and will work closely with the Regional Advisor on Grants on issues of Grant Management and proposal writing.

Description of tasks and responsibilities:

Fundraising and visibility

  • Find potential donors, make connections to gain insight into giving needs, beliefs and habits to understand how to position our organization with them, while growing a network of dedicated donors and seeking new opportunities fundraising.
  • Promote joint and strong participation with Country Teams, understanding country fundraising needs/priorities, from donor mapping, fundraising to proposals, aligning them with the platform regional level to promote efficiency in resource mobilization.
  • Support the Regional Partnerships and Resource Mobilization Advisor to brainstorm and create new methods of raising funds for War Child, for example through the War Child communications function – Leveraging technology and social media wherever possible to enhance fundraising initiatives.
  • Work with the Communications Officer to create marketing tools, such as flyers and brochures, to use for event promotion and other fundraising campaigns and create a strong fundraising message that appeals potential donors.
  • Build strong donor relationships, expand existing donor relationships, and regularly build new donor relationships.
  • Collaborate with other organizations, including local organizations and other stakeholders/groups within the community, to build partnerships and improve fundraising activities.
  • Be aware of fundraising campaigns or initiatives carried out by War Child Alliance members and explore ways for the Africa region to participate or engage in such initiatives.
  • Ensure visibility of the WC by publicizing the mission and work of the organization while utilizing advocacy and other stakeholder initiatives for fundraising purposes, developing key strategies that benefit from such engagements in this regarding fundraising.

Management of documentation, communication and information

  • Work closely with country programs to carry out periodic donor mapping and analysis to track donor priorities using the donor tracking tool and update it as necessary to keep it well informed and Continue the key information needed for fundraising initiatives, particularly at the country level.
  • Through monitoring of commitments – Monitor all commitments (new and existing) ensuring that monitoring is up to date, ensuring follow-up of country specific commitments – ensuring that they are properly updated and by carrying out an analysis or recommendation on how these commitments fit into the overall information and decision-making strategy of the Senior Management team.   • Develop quarterly updates on partnerships and fundraising, with a particular focus on key updates, lessons and challenges in fundraising and grants management and share them within the program WC countries for learning and knowledge management purposes.
  • Maintain complete and orderly specific donor records and information and manage regular communications with donors.
  • Be aware of specific information/trends in the donor world and conduct analysis of how this will impact WC’s fundraising efforts.
  • Work closely with the Grant Distribution Advisor to establish and maintain a comprehensive system of information management and filing of documents and correspondence for donors and partners, ensuring they are up to date in the RAFIKI system.
  • Also conduct quarterly data and information audits to identify gaps and ensure information is stored appropriately.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination with donors across partnerships, country team and other functions.
  • Support countries to develop and review their respective fundraising strategies and engagement plans.

Support for partnership management and grant management

  • Lead the proposal development process for regional proposals involving 2 or more countries and ensure that WC policies and procedures in relation to proposals are followed at all times.
  • Assist countries in writing and reviewing grant applications and fundraising proposals.
  • Work hand in hand with the Regional Grant Distribution Advisor to ensure that the grant tracking system is up to date.
  • Help countries ensure their fundraising needs are up to date and share this information with fundraising members for their consideration.
  • Provide support for capacity development of national programs in partnerships, resource mobilization and proposal development.
  • WC is committed to the localization program and he/she will support country teams in establishing appropriate partnership management systems and processes for local partners.
  • Work with country teams on partnership tools and processes to promote quality partnerships with local partners.
  • Work with countries to improve capacity development of local partners, including partner monitoring to improve effectiveness.
  • Learn from the work of local partnerships in countries and share them with the localization team for strategic decision-making processes.
  • Be a champion of partnership principles in accordance with the WC Partnership Policy.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree or MBA is an added advantage.
  • At least three years of experience in fundraising, sales or marketing in the East Africa region preferred.
  • Good knowledge of grant management approaches and procedural compliance by donors, and experience in managing grants from institutional donors such as the EU and UN agencies.
  • Experience in developing and using project management tools including logframes, theory of change models, budgets, activity plans and monitoring and evaluation.
  • Good knowledge and experience working with local partners.
  • Experience writing reports and working remotely.
