Background

The International Development Corporation, a Research & Development organization headquartered in Quebec City, Canada, is looking for a Research Assistant for its projects in Africa. The Research Assistant will work closely with the Research Director, conducting data analysis for its research portfolio in development economics, public finance and impact evaluation.

The role requires a minimum commitment of 2 years, with the possibility of a longer term extension. The successful candidate will be based in Abidjan, Ivory Coast .

Job Description

  • Participate in the organization of data collections and research activities including:
  • Translate/develop data collection tools;
  • Develop the data collection plan;
  • Programming questionnaires in Survey Solutions, SurveyCTO and other data collection applications
  • Organize the pre-test of the scheduled questionnaire and write the pre-test report describing the pre-test, including the total number of surveys administered, the average length of the survey, the difficulties encountered, as well as the solutions proposed and the proposed modifications to the questionnaire;
  • recruit a team of qualified supervisors and investigators for investigations;
  • develop training manuals, including proposed training programs and skills testing;
  • train investigators and investigation supervisors
  • prepare training reports describing the results of supervisor and investigator training, including problems encountered, each investigator’s evaluation scores and the final list of supervisors and investigators;
  • Supervise data collection operations and conduct counter-investigations as needed
  • Write data quality control dofiles and organize data quality control
  • Cleaned data, developed data collection and data analysis reports
  • Participate in writing proposals for research into new projects
  • Performed any other technical tasks assigned to him

Financial Support

  • Prepare monthly cash supply request for office and projects
  • Prepare local payments by following the procedure (payment request + supporting documents, request for signature and payment authorization)
  • Manage petty cash
  • Ensure expenditure codifications (allocation by project)
  • Submit all receipts and invoices, related to the project to Central Finance, and save to SDI dropbox
  • In collaboration with program managers, compile and manage budgets for field activities,
  • Reconcile bank statements and accounting data
  • Assist with any organizational project/audit.

Pay

  • Preparation of monthly salaries, printing and filing
  • Payment of salaries for employees
  • Ensure that the salary account is reconciled and that salary deductions (ITS, taxes and inps) are paid in accordance with current tax regulations.

Administrative & Operational Support

  • Office management
  • Maintaining inventories of supplies and equipment
  • Travel assistance (accommodation, reservations)
  • Logistical support for workshops (room rental, refreshments)
  • Perform general office tasks and errands.

Candidate profile

  • Have at least a Bac+5 degree in economics, agroeconomics, statistics, demography or related fields
  • At least five years of experience in coordinating quantitative data collection in Côte d’Ivoire
  • Good knowledge of qualitative research methodology
  • Good knowledge of CAPI (especially SurveyCTO) and quantitative research methodology
  • Ability to train, evaluate and supervise interviewers and focus group facilitators
  • Good knowledge of MS Office applications
  • Be able to communicate effectively in writing and orally in French
