JOB BRIEF

The United States Institute of Peace seeks a Research Assistant to provide research and writing support to the Congressional Relations program. Applicants must be organized, analytical, attentive to detail, excellent communicators, and able to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.

Pay: Starting at $15.20- 16.00 per hour

Work Schedule: An average of 20 hours per week; up to 40 hours when school is not in session.

Work Location: This position is based at USIP’s Washington, D.C., headquarters.

Expected Project Dates: January 2022 – August 2022

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supports and conducts research and writing and develops documents related to the Congressional Relations program.
  • Provides support for virtual and in-person (when possible) events
  • Assist in administrative tasks, such as supporting event logistics and taking notes during meetings and events.
  • Analyze data using various statistical methods, and write reports to summarize data and the implications of the results

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current B.A, M.A or Ph.D. student studying international relations, conflict resolution, political science, economics, or a related field.
  • Familiarity with international NGOs and international development and security issues.
  • Demonstrates good organizational skills, can plan and prioritize own work and work of internal stakeholders.
  • Strong writing, editing, and research skills, including qualitative methods.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, strong attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be a quick learner, well-organized, and attentive to detail.
  • Must be able to multi-task and work under deadlines in a dynamic environment.

USIP’s Research Assistant program is administered through the Consortium of Universities in the Washington Metropolitan area. Any full-time university student is eligible for these openings.

Following the Federal mandate, USIP will require USIP employees and contractors to be fully vaccinated (with the exception of religious and health exemptions). The vaccine mandate applies to employees and contractors with building access regardless of telework or remote status.

All USIP contract and employee positions are contingent upon the favorable completion of a suitability background investigation.
