About the Role: PoMA would like to produce extensive research highlighting our work and findings. PoMA aims to publish our research in international publications, to advocate for the mental health needs of vulnerable populations and to share insights and recommendations for the global mental health field. The Research Lead will manage research assistants and liaison with the project manager to provide regular updates and drafts of work.

Deliverables and Outcomes:

  • Manage and lead all research teams across Afghanistan for the project duration. This includes enumerator teams for data collection.
  • Develop a research plan to collect data from a sufficient sample size across target populations in selected provinces.
  • Preparation of the data (data cleaning) and analysis of the data.
  • Work with the MEAL Lead to develop and implement research protocols for the project and ensure all research project staff adhere to these.
  • Work with the EQUIP team lead to understand how the EQUIP program works, will be implemented, and how this will impact the data collected.
  • Maintain regular contact, including virtual meetings, with the VU research team to share data and findings, and ensure research is in line with the developed protocols and hypotheses.
  • Utilize toolkits (such as Kobo or similar) where data can easily be disaggregated and analyzed.
  • Develop and give specialized training to enumerators about the project and best practices in data collection, including safeguarding.

Considerations:

  • All research will be intellectual property of PoMA.
  • Ability to adapt to relevant program and contextual considerations, and travel to Herat, Khost, Daikundi, and Nangahar, independently.
  • Focus on producing evidence-informed research for an international readership.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Background in data collection, research, or related field
  • Experience conducting national research studies
  • Experience leading multiple teams in data collection
  • Fluency in Dari and/or Pashto
