Resettlement Expert At Danish Refugee Council

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) Standby Roster is recruiting a bilingual Spanish-English Resettlement Expert (Level 2) for deployment to UNHCR Panama City, Panama (Regional Bureau, Americas), The ideal candidate will have a strong background in case work either in resettlement or RSD, and demonstrated knowledge of the Colombian and Venezuelan context. Preferred start date of June 1st, remote start possible.

The selected candidate will also be enrolled in general Resettlement Roster Deployment Scheme membership. The objective of the UNHCR-DRC Resettlement Deployment Scheme is to mobilize qualified and committed resettlement experts and to deploy them according to requests received from UNHCR in a timely and effective manner thereby strengthening the capacity of UNHCR to meet the global needs for resettlement.

Qualifications and Skills Required:

– Advanced University Degree in Law/International Law, Political Science, Social Science, and Development, International Relations or related field

– Minimum of 6 years of relevant professional experience

– Demonstrated experience in case work and case review, preferably in a resettlement or RSD context.

– Solid understanding of international refugee protection principles

– Strong knowledge of RSD and RST principles

– Excellent drafting and editing skills in English (mandatory) and Spanish (desirable)

– Leadership and coordinating skills

– Strong communication and interpersonal skills

– Ability to meet tight deadlines and to work under pressure-with little supervision

The deployee shall undertake the following tasks:

· Revision of RRFs and PTA RFs for Resettlement and PTA cases, and provide feedback and guidance to case workers in Central and South America operations

· Submit cleared Resettlement and PTA cases to receiving countries;

· Support with administrative tasks related to case work such as completing transfer packages for resettlement / transit countries and facilitating the translation of relevant documents by a professional translator;

· Undertake interviews and complete RRFs / PTA RFs for applicants in Panama when needed;

· Participate in and, when needed, support in the facilitation of meetings relevant to RST, PTA and Protection;

· Support the training of persons working directly or indirectly on the RST / PTA programmes;

· Provide regular reports to the Regional Resettlement Officer;

· When required, undertake field missions to the NCA countries provide support and training to RST and PTA caseworkers.

Initial contract period is until September 31, with a likelihood of extension until December 31, 2023.
