Organisational context
During the period September 2021- December 2021, the Education Section will coordinate preparation and content development for the RewirEd/Expo events in Dubai, which will include joint side-events with the GRF’s High Level Officials Meeting (HLOM). This will involve coordination with the Global Refugee Forum team and across a range of education stakeholders to prepare sessions; development of talking point, awareness materials and broader UNHCR content, As RewirEd overlaps, with the HLOM, this role will also work with the Education Section to ensure coordination and consistency of messaging across the two events, ensuring strong representation of the GRF Education Alliance at the HLOM. Along with ensuring alignment for RewirEd-HLOM side events, this role will also be involved in the development of sessions and content, reporting materials and the participation of refugee students and alumni at the HLOM
Duties and responsibilities
The consultant is responsible for delivering a range of products, materials and events related to refugee education, specifically including connected education.
UNHCR is therefore seeking an experienced consultant with expertise in event coordination, planning, content development, online delivery, and knowledge of UNHCR and education programming to ensure that UNHCR successfully delivers on these global events and commitments.
Description of activities:
Responsibilities of the consultant include:
I. Coordinate with the RewirEd organizers and education stakeholders to plan the substantive integration of refugee-issues into the RewirEd programme. This includes coordinating participation, content development and logistics for UNHCR’s engagement in Dubai Expo and the RewirEd events.
II. Support Education Section preparation and delivery for the joint RewirEd-High Level Officials Meeting side events planned for December 2021.
Monitoring and Progress Controls (report requirements, periodicity, format, deadlines):
- Completion of pledge mapping and analysis report outlining progress & gaps for presentation at RewirEd & the HLOM.
- Successful hosting of 3 side-events at RewirEd-HLOM.
- Production of 3+ talking points and briefs for Senior-level engagement for HLOM and RewirEd
- Successful launch of the Connected Education Refugee Challenge in December
- Development of a social media plan for the GRF Education Alliance at RewirEd/HLOM (including a focus on Aiming Higher & the CE Refugee Challenge)
- Production of a briefing back for GRF Education Alliance members on events in December and key advocacy messages
- Production of an outcomes report of the HLOM & RewirEd events for distribution with the GRF Education Alliance
- Completion of a reflections document outlining recommendations for the next GRF event
Essential minimum qualifications and professional experience required
- University degree in education, political science, socio-economics or other related field.
- At least two years of professional experience in a related area.
- Expertise in developing written, social media, presentation, high level and other content related to refugee education.
- Expert knowledge of working with refugees, refugee students, refugee education stakeholders, ability to plan, organise and coordinate events taking into account the limitations and barriers refugee participants face, as well as multiple time zones, languages and formats.
- Familiarity with UNHCR’s education programmes and objectives.
- Strong track record of effective communication with UNHCR country, regional and global operations and platforms.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills in English.
- Excellent knowledge of multi-media tools and platforms.
Location
The successful candidate will be working home-based with a mission travel to Abu Dhabi in December 2021.
