The Role:

OxfamGB is looking for two Roving H&S Advisors to deliver technical support and guidance for the management of H&S policies and procedures in country programmes where OGB is Executing Affiliate within the relevant region.

Join Oxfam GB at this incredibly exciting time for Health and Safety as we create this new function, focusing on keeping our colleagues all across the globe safe and well. Your role will be to guide and support a number of countries across our Asia operations to effectively manage health and safety in challenging environments from supporting with Humanitarian crisis, emergency response and disaster and conflict zones all whilst taking into consideration local laws and our commitment as an organisation to decolonise risk. This will entail supporting with creating risk assessments both engrained within a positive safety culture and agile based on changing situations, managing the risk register, providing training sessions on a number of key safety topics such as Risk Assessment, COSHH, Safety Leadership and Emergency response, offering guidance and support on various topics from latrine digging within an IDP camp to the safety of field offices, fuel management and so much more.

This is a role that is focused on delivering a task centric, people focused approach to health and safety risk management as well as being an opportunity to learn and develop in a new and exciting area of health and safety globally as well as the NGO sector itself.

Please note that there are 2 positions available for this role:

– 1x Asia

– 1x MENA (Middle East and North Africa)

Successful applicants will require a good working knowledge of the region to which they are deployed. As this is a roving role, the successful candidates will be expected to be deployed within the region they are working a majority of the time.

An ideal candidate for the role will also be / have:

  • Good knowledge and experience of providing Health and Safety advice, support, and training in a large international organisation
  • Experience of working with a diverse range of people and teams in multiple locations and / or countries
  • Understanding of risk management and how Health and Safety can work effectively with other functions (e.g., security management, human resources management, supply, and logistics)
  • Experience in delivering, designing and quality-assuring effective communications and presentations (e.g., for workshops and training)
  • Experience in influencing positive change in behaviour and practice in teams outside of the immediate management line
  • Interest and enthusiasm to learn more about delivering Health and Safety to a high standard in INGO operations
  • Excellent communication skills in English (oral and written)
  • Numeracy and computer proficiency (MS Office packages)
  • Adaptable and flexible.
