Position Summary:
Creative Associates seeks a Senior Accountant for an anticipated USAID-funded education project that seeks to improve learning outcomes in primary education for children across the country of Mozambique through innovative program models and sustainability driven designs. The program is an exciting opportunity to improve on existing activity models and introduce new innovative ways to partner with Government and local level bodies for change in education. S/he will apply accounting principles and procedures to analyze financial information, prepare accurate and timely financial reports and statements and ensure appropriate accounting control procedures. S/he will maintain personnel leave files that inform payroll and also work closely with the Assistant Accountant for prompt completion of monthly close out of Finance books.
Reporting & Supervision:
The Senior Accountant will report to the Finance Officer.
Responsibilities
- Review cash and bank payment vouchers, tracking advances issued to staff.
- Review and ensure real-time data entry into accounting software.
- Prepare bank reconciliations on bi and monthly basis.
- Preparation and disbursement of allowances to participants a in timely manner.
- Ensure that all accounting data is updated, reconciled, and fully supported with adequate supporting documents.
- Ensure funds’ availability and coordinate with Finance Officer on timely wire processing to Field Offices.
- Assist Finance Officer in meeting all the financial reporting requirements.
- Ensure compliance with the Country local laws, particularly on withholding taxes.
- Review and ensure withholding taxes and timely deposit into government treasury.
- Any other tasks may assign by the supervisor.**Qualifications**
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required.
- At least three (3) years of experience in accounting including USAID or similar internationally funded programs
- Familiarity with donor/client rules and regulations; and procedures pertaining to acquisitions;
- Expertise in accounting, finance or business administration.
- Knowledge of laws, accounting principles, USAID rules and regulations, and labor laws.
- Professional proficiency in written and spoken Portuguese required; proficiency in English desired.
