Senior Accountant At Medical Teams International

This position contributes to the mission of the organization by leading the preparation and reconciliation of financial information and ensuring timeliness, accuracy, transparency, and compliance with all applicable accounting rules and regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Functional Oversight:

  • Oversees the planning and execution of the accounts payable function ensuring accuracy and timeliness of payments.
  • Oversees the planning and execution of processing of the bi-weekly payroll and other payroll duties.
  • Oversees the planning and execution of reconciliation and maintenance of the consolidated general ledger to ensure accuracy in compliance with current accounting standards and the timely issuance of financial statements.
  • Collaborates with the International Finance Director in executing the month end closing process in all country offices and locations

Accounting and Finance:

  • Ensures accurate maintenance of all general ledger accounts and records by reviewing reconciliations and roll-forward schedules against the trial balance each month. Research problem accounts and stale items to bring to quick resolution.
  • Approves accounts payable transactions and journal entries by posting them in Unit 4.
  • Reviews the reconciliation of corporate bank accounts.
  • Collaborates with MaD employees to ensure all CRM transactions are imported to Unit4, prepares reconciliations between CRM and Unit4
  • Facilitates the fund transfer requests from the various field offices
  • Reconciles investment accounts.
  • Completes special accounting-related projects and reports.
  • Distributes financial reports to CFO and Controller for review before sharing with budget holders each month
  • Leads efforts on identifying and implementing best practices for the accounting function

Other Essential Duties:

  • Supports the annual external audit
  • Prepares schedules for the completion of the Form 990
  • Supports the International Finance Director by running schedules for the annual NICRA Proposal
  • Oversees the preparation of the annual FBAR report

Strategic Plan Responsibilities:

  • In collaboration with your department, work towards the implementation of Medical Teams current strategic plan and the accomplishment of the related strategic goals.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Provide support to the CFO and Controller when necessary.
  • When appropriate, incorporate the use of volunteers in daily job functions.
  • Supports safeguarding of program participants and employees through promoting an environment of awareness and upholding the code of conduct provisions of Medical Teams Protection from Sexual Exploitation & Abuse, and Child & Vulnerable Adult protection policies and sexual harassment policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, LICENSES, & CERTIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting

Preferred:

  • Masters Degree in Accounting
  • CPA is preferred

EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • Six (6) years of progressively responsible accounting work, or, any equivalent combination of education and experience.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Familiar with modular based software system, such as GP, Blackbaud or ERP systems
  • 10-key skills.
  • Prior experience working with Human Resource/Payroll Data Software (Paycom, Unit4, etc.)
  • Non-profit experience is a plus.
  • Commitment to Medical Teams International calling statement.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously; flexible.
  • Ability to operate well in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule and weekends as needed.
  • Ability to travel internationally on occasion
  • Must have the ability to consistently communicate professionally and effectively with all constituents.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Advanced Microsoft suite of applications including Excel, Word, Outlook, Office 365
  • Advanced finance software skills including CRM, Great Plains or other accounting platform
