The Opportunity
As a senior member of the sector, the Senior Advisor – Education will be responsible for contributing towards strategic growth and development of the education sector of Save the Children, Bangladesh. S/he will be responsible for expanding fund raising capacities, strengthening government relationships, engaging with relevant stakeholders, organizing policy dialogues with donors and government, and also maintaining relationship with members. S/he will also engage in program development, overseeing technical aspects and quality of projects within Education Sector. In most circumstances, the incumbent will be expected to mentor and/or build capacity of existing country program staff and will be supporting the Sector Director and the SMT (Senior Management Team) in realizing the portfolio expansion vision for the country office. S/he also deputize Sector Director during out of office and will help Sector Director in facilitating Sector’s program planning, strategic development and explore funding opportunities. In addition, she/he will represent Education Sector at appropriate fora both at home and abroad. The incumbent will keep close liaison and engagement with education related ministries and development partners.
The roles include but are not limited to:
- Providing strategic, operational, and technical support on fund raising strategy development of Education Sector along with exploring opportunities, developing concepts/project document and liaison with donor, members on fund raising opportunities.
- Playing a key role in Education Sector by strengthening the relationship with relevant ministries, directorates, departments, and Education Development Partners to strengthen government and donor relationships to enable the CO access resources for the sector in both development and humanitarian settings.
- Requiring regular engagement with the SCI thematic and non-thematic team especially with resource mobilization, PDQ and other sectors and strengthening linkages with all relevant external networks, bodies, agencies both at national and global level.
Qualifications and experience
- At least 10 years’ experience in the field of education program management or advisory capacity; program development in education, particularly in ECCD, basic education; and education related program planning, management and implementation as well as advocacy work.
- Advanced knowledge of early childhood care and development, primary education, basic education and inclusive education and also national ECD and Education stakeholder groups, including government education priorities and processes, institutions, and networks.
- Advanced knowledge and experiences in government education priorities, policies, practices as well strong linkages with relevant ministries.
- Excellent strategic vision, with strong ability to be innovative, creative and proactive to see different scenarios and contingencies required to improve partners’ capacity to deliver desired results and changes for children.
- Data management and interpretation skills to guide the Education Team.
- Excellent written and verbal English skills especially project designing skills as per donor requirements
- Excellent training/facilitation, negotiation, conflict handling, presentation, networking, and communication skills.
- Experience with supporting organizational capacity strengthening processes
- A full understanding of political, economic, and social contexts of Bangladesh.
- Ability to multi-task, set priorities, and maintain positive attitude
- Networking and coordination skills with relevant ministries, NGOs, UN Agencies, institutions, and development partners involved in ECD and Education programs.
- Master’s Degree, preferably in Social Science (M.A or Equivalent degree), master’s in Education or related field
