Senior Associate, Food Fortification At Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is seeking a Senior Associate, Food Fortification to support in the day-to-day operational delivery, implementation, and monitoring of the LSFF/school meals project in Benin. This role will be offered on a three(3) year fixed term contract, subject to availability of funding and will be based in Cotonou, Benin.

About the role

The Senior Associate, Food Fortification will work closely with local food producers, laboratories, and other external stakeholders. They will lead on the needs assessment for food producers, identifying capacity gaps that need to be filled to meet required standards for the school meal project and will maintain a working relationship with other food fortification implementation partners, fortified foods processors, government & policy institutions and relevant strategic and development partners who have similar activities and programmes.

The position holder will be responsible for specifically focusing on tracking the progress and status of project and ensuring that project outputs and activities are successfully implemented within approved plans, budget, timeline, and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities include.

  • Undertake needs assessment for food producers, identify capacity gaps that need to be filled in order to meet required food safety and quality standards for the school meal programme.
  • Conduct technical needs assessment of laboratories to evaluate their capacity for monitoring and regulation.
  • Assess and tailor technical assistance and business training to actors in the food industry and laboratories in collaboration with consultants.
  • Collate and analyse data and contribute to the preparation of technical and needs assessment reports relating to food quality and safety, to inform risk management and mitigation.
  • Contribute towards partnership management, technical, reporting, and monitoring support ensuring activities are delivered on time aligning with donor and organizational compliance in line with the policies and best practice standards of GAIN.
  • Support project teams on the food technology aspects of food assistance programs, ensuring compliance with food and safety regulations.
  • Actively work on stakeholder mapping and management of key interest groups (external partners, governments, regulatory agencies and other government agencies) for the effective implementation of the project.

About you

The ideal candidate should have experience in food safety and quality standards with technical knowledge of working with food producers and the food industry in general. You should be able to conduct technical needs assessment within the food industry including laboratories from a safety and quality standards perspective and work towards bridging those gaps.

The post holder should have strong project management skills with ability to plan a wide range of tasks while ensuring stakeholder engagement with key players in the food industry and reporting. In addition to this, do stakeholder mapping and management of key interest groups (external partners, governments, regulatory agencies, and other government agencies) for the effective implementation of the project.

You should have the ability to coordinate and influence the formulation, implementation, monitoring of international development projects. Have working knowledge of food producer technical auditing principles in addition to experience in managing food fortification programs in Benin (staple foods, complementary foods, food processing, regulatory frameworks, food safety and quality). The candidate should have an education background in Food Technology, Health Sciences, Food Control, Nutrition or other related field, or related work experience.

About our offer

The starting gross salary on offer for this role is from XOF 10,157,532 – XOF 11,590,236 per annum, depending on experience. Other benefits are as attached below the job description.
