Job Description

DevWorks supports people and institutions to enhance service delivery, strengthen local capacity, and enable equitable economic growth and prosperity. We deliver inclusive, market-based solutions across several technical areas: agriculture and food security, water security, sanitation and hygiene (WSSH), private sector development, governance, and climate and resilience.
DevWorks is recruiting for a Senior Communications and Media Relations Specialist for the Feed the Future Bangladesh Sustainable Aquaculture Activity. The Activity aims to enhance inclusive and sustainable aquaculture sector growth in Bangladesh through a market system approach to improve rural household income and nutrition.
The Senior Communications and Media Relations Specialist will focus on promoting the Activity’s work across various platforms to reach internal and external audiences. They will work with the Activity team to regularly produce learning briefs, infographics, or other informational project handouts; social media and/or blog posts; and other knowledge products under the direction of the MEL/CLA Director. They will also contribute to social and behavior change (SBC) activities to promote the consumption of fish and fish products as well as gender equality and social inclusion (GESI). Major tasks and responsibilities include:
- Strategic Communication Planning: Developing and implementing a comprehensive communications strategy aligned with Activity goals, the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) and Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) Plans, and DevWorks’ and USAID policies. Identifying key audiences and tailoring communication messaging and materials to effectively engage stakeholders, including communities, private sector actors, government agencies, donors, and media. Working directly with project staff to identify communications priorities and methods aligned with technical activities to support achievement of the Activity’s desired outcomes.
- Innovation: Developing and introducing innovative ideas and methods to drive communications, ensuring adaptability to emerging trends and evolving audience needs. Leveraging new technologies and creative strategies to craft dynamic communication solutions that resonate with key stakeholders and align with the Activity objectives.
- Content Creation and Dissemination: Developing high-quality knowledge products and communication materials, which may include press releases, articles, blogs, newsletters, brochures, infographics, fact sheets, project flyers, and success stories. Producing multimedia content such as videos, audio, photographs, and PowerPoint presentations to highlight Activity successes and lessons learned. Maintaining and updating appropriate social media platforms. Ensuring that all communication strategies and materials are gender-sensitive and inclusive, with a particular focus on promoting the consumption of fish and fish products.
- Media Relations: Coordinating media engagement to promote the Activity, as appropriate. Engaging with USAID as necessary on any press/media content and engagement. Engaging with relevant media to promote SBC campaigns related to the sale and consumption of fish, nutrition, and GESI.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Supporting the organization of workshops and events to showcase project achievements, share lessons learned, and facilitate collaboration with stakeholders. Planning, developing, and executing strategic campaigns to raise awareness and promote Activity initiatives at organizational, sub-national, and national levels. Collaborating with Activity partners to ensure campaign messages are effectively communicated and reach target audiences.
- Private Sector Engagement: Building strong relationships with private sector partners to understand their communication needs and challenges. Providing tailored communication support to private sector partners, helping them develop and enhance their outreach strategies. Supporting private sector partners in tracking and evaluating the success of their communication and outreach campaigns using data and key performance indicators.
- Branding and Marking: Ensuring that all communication materials and reports comply with the Activity’s Branding and Marking Plan as well as USAID and Feed the Future branding and marking requirements.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Providing regular updates and recommendations to the project team to improve communication efforts. Contributing to writing, formatting, and development of graphics for reports.
- Capacity Strengthening and Support: Providing training and support to staff members and partners in preparing presentations, reports, and communication materials.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a media or development communications professional, preferably with a communications role on a USAID-funded project in Bangladesh.
- Strong understanding of USAID branding and marking requirements.
- Demonstrated experience producing knowledge products and communication materials for USAID or other donor-funded projects.
- Strong understanding of and experience with design tools/software and social media management to monitor and optimize engagement.
- Prior experience designing and implementing multichannel SBC campaigns based on social marketing principles.
- Existing relationships with print and electronic media desired.
- A bachelor’s degree or higher in media and communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
- Excellent writing, editing, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English required.
