Senior Community Engagement Specialist At Chemonics

Chemonics seeks a Senior Community Engagement Specialist for the anticipated USAID Zambia Foundational Learning Activity. This five-year activity will seek to provide technical assistance in the education sector to scale the Primary Literacy Program (PLP), support the Ministry of Education to institutionalize the PLP and early learning reforms, and enhance the delivery of remedial and catch-up education. This position will be based in Lusaka, Zambia. We are looking for individuals who have a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities include:

  • Maintain effective communications and good relations with project partners and other external entities and individuals, including local media and beneficiaries
  • Design activities and opportunities to engage communities to support their children to develop oral language skills and the foundational sub-skills of literacy in the early grades.
  • Help design and develop a social and behavior change communication (SBCC) campaign to engage communities in supporting their children to develop early grade reading skills
  • Produce project outreach materials, including brochures, leaflets, and other public communications materials for various project events
  • Work with journalists, photographers, designers, and celebrities supporting project programming

Qualifications:

  • Minimum four years of experience serving as a communications and project management professional on donor-funded projects
  • Significant experience developing and executing communications plans and standalone events in collaboration with government ministries and international donor partners
  • Experience conducting public outreach campaigns, and engaging local communities, teachers, and parents to deliver program messages
  • Proven ability to identify key stakeholders, and engage and facilitate effective dialogue between stakeholders while balancing multiple priorities
  • Superb interpersonal and cross-cultural communication skills with native Nyanja/Chewa or Bemba, and fluent English
