Senior Engineer At CTG

Overview of position

1. Purpose

Under the overall guidance and direction of the Chief Projects And Asset Management Unit, The Senior Engineer is responsible for managing large and challenging engineering projects, applying a full range of engineering theories and techniques in the management of projects, construction, design, maintenance, repair and liquidation of major structures and facilities, and related engineering activities required for peace-keeping field missions.

The Senior Engineer will manage large and challenging projects providing support to the Projects and Asset Management unit and Planning and Design Unit. The Senior Engineer will be responsible for the following: –

• Manages, analyzes and advises on the project assets, planning, construction, design and maintenance of major systems and facilities such as buildings roads, bridges, airfields, helipads, railways, docks, waste disposal systems, flood control systems, water treatment facilities, and related structures and other engineering activities in the field needed for the logistics support of peace-keeping and other United Nations field missions.

• Senior Engineer should have knowledge on managing engineering services including electrical networks, mechanical networks, water and sanitation systems. etc ,

• Manages, evaluates, reviews and revises project documents, and analyzes design specifications included in project proposals for accuracy, soundness, feasibility and cost.

• Recommends solutions to unusual engineering problems including designs of overhead anti-blast protections. Reviews technical studies on engineering topics, developing guidelines for the general planning and maintenance of programs and facilities.

• Reviews calculations on stresses and strain affecting proposed structures, taking into account such factors as estimated load, water pressure, wind resistance, soil characteristics, temperature fluctuations and nature of building materials to be used.

• Keeps abreast, through relevant engineering literature, of significant trends and the development of improved methods and equipment. Leads efforts of team studying critical problems relating to design or construction of systems and facilities.

• Makes recommendations for resolution of problems in specialized areas. Participates in planning missions, serving as technical adviser to committees or international meetings.

• Develops short and long-range plans for the management of construction projects, design, procurement of goods/services, construction/commissioning, and operation/maintenance of our client facilities and infrastructure, taking into consideration that the mission is established in areas with a risk-environment of medium to high threat, and in areas with minimal power, communications, transport and service infrastructure.

• Mission facilities typically include modularized camps for troops and civilian staff, logistics bases and airbases with all required utility infrastructure for electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems and security works.

• Contribute to the development of annual engineering budgets and associated work schedules, based on engineering resource planning, taking into account all required engineering material needs and selected enabling capacities (e.g. military engineering units, commercial contractors, mission support teams, or mission engineering staffing) for the most effective and efficient execution of the engineering work plans.

• Attend and participate in construction projects, design or pre-construction conference and other meetings with clients and management as necessary to establish design parameters.

• Manage construction meetings that assist in clarifying technical design elements. Performs other related duties as required. Attend and lead meetings as required. Monitor actual costs and schedule performance against the approved budget and baseline schedules

• Work implies frequent interaction with the following: Chief Administrative Officer, and head of Logistics, other Service delivery Units, Unit Military staff, Civilian Contractors, Counterparts in government and other UN and specialized agencies

3. Duration and Funding

Total anticipated duration of the contract is 6 months, allocated funds 66,000 and the funding source is 10985.

Sr. Engineer will supervise the team working on the preparation of SOW from the attached list.

4.2. Outputs (Should be specific, measurable, attainable, results-based and time-bound)

Provides expert management and analysis of problems and advises on construction, design leading to timely completion of projects in accordance with specifications and quality standards; significantly contributes to the training and preparation of engineering staff to meet future needs of the organization and mission. Proper coordination of all project management in all Regions during the execution of construction projects.

2. Qualifications and skills

Education

Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in Civil engineering. A first-level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Experience in managing an engineering office comprised of different engineering specialties such as Construction, Facilities management, Electromechanical etc. Experience translating client’s concept project proposals to final designs and advice on engineering procurements needs.

Work experience

A minimum of twelve years of progressively responsible experience in engineering or related area. Qualifying years of experience are calculated following the receipt of the first level university degree recognized by the United Nations.

This role does not have any team management responsibility.
