Senior Impact and Markets Associate At Nuru International

What’s the job and who is Nuru?

  • Location: U.S. based/time zones preferred, 100% work-remote
  • Reports to: Impact & Learning Director (ILD)

As the Sr. Impact & Markets Associate you will support impact programming and MEL activities within local Nuru NGOs in Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and in future scaling geographies. You will support the advancement and adaption of their existing and unique implementation activities within the Nuru Model. You will bring your knowledge of agribusiness, agronomics, financial inclusion, healthcare, and other cross-cutting thematic areas of importance in support of the Nuru Collective of organizations. Your day-to-day activities will include research and development, collaboration with partners and diverse stakeholders, supporting business development, and most importantly collaborating with Nuru locally-led NGOs to deliver impactful program outcomes. A key attribute of the job is building working relationships based on trust and mutual value creation while working remotely. You will report to the Impact & Learning Director and work closely with Operations personal in areas of security, MEL, and program impact.

Founded in 2008, Nuru International establishes locally-led NGO’s in Sub-Saharan Africa which work to eradicate extreme poverty and unlock economic potential in rural farmer communities. This goal is achieved by transitioning vulnerable smallholder farmers from subsistence to professionalized farming as a business. While Nuru staff technically work for separate and distinct locally-run organizations based in various countries, we all operate collectively under a shared vision to cultivate lasting meaningful choices in the most vulnerable and marginalized communities in the world.

Nuru International has been a fully remote team since 2008 and will continue to be one. All Nuru International staff members work from a location of their choice, but should be prepared to balance their work hours to collaborate across multiple time zones.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Support effective enterprise planning, adaptive management, and problem solving in collaboration with Nuru Collective locally-led NGOs in Kenya, Ethiopia, Nigeria, Burkina Faso, and future partner countries.
  • Support business development by providing insights into donor prospecting, information gathering, and relationship management.
  • Deliver high-quality proposal development and technical writing content for institutional donors, foundations, and private sector partners.
  • Provide strategic guidance, thought leadership, and produce practical tools that ensure the lasting, efficient, impactful, and inclusive continuous improvement of the activities that underpin the Nuru Model.
  • Stay abreast of technical developments in relevant external communities of practice and disseminate relevant information to team members across the Nuru Collective as needed.
  • Contribute to an evidence base that supports the effective adaptation of the Nuru Model to technological, climatic, conflict, and gender dynamics.
  • Provide direction and support to the design, testing, and evaluation of innovations to advance the Nuru Model and locally-led development.
  • Collaborate with MEL team members to publish impact reports, generate data and information systems, and ensure the accurate contextualization of the impact of the Nuru Collective.
  • Ensure that technical tools and materials are accessible by maintaining and enhancing Nuru Collective knowledge management protocols.
  • Support the communications strategy with technically sound materials and actively find external blogs, events, and opportunities to communicate about the Nuru Collective’s work.

What you should have:

  • Coursework in international development, agribusiness or agriculture, natural resource management, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Experience in implementing multi-sectoral programming in the agriculture/food security sector or equivalent agribusiness sector, including field experience in developing country context.
  • Demonstrated experience providing technical and programmatic support to rural development programs.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of USAID, GIZ, and other institutional donors in areas of operations, strategy, and learning.
  • Interpersonal and intercultural communications skills, with the ability to communicate knowledge in a manner appropriate to diverse audiences.
  • French or Spanish language proficiency is a plus.
