The IJM Australian office is established in 2014 to deliver justice programs overseas and to grow the movement of Australians seeking justice for the oppressed.
The Need
For over 25 years, IJM has pioneered the work to protect vulnerable people from violence. As we grow to expand our impact to protect 500 million people from violence by 2030, we are seeking a Senior Lead, People & Culture.
This position is based in Sydney, Australia and reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
Responsibilities
Leadership and Management
- Advise leaders on organizational HR policy matters, procedures and best practices, and to implement and communicate them to all staff.
- Actively participate in leadership meetings, regional APAC HR Community of Practice meetings and other global meetings as required.
- Drive staff engagement, attraction and retention, staff recognition and performance management process of staff to attain organizational goals.
- Successfully implement spiritual formation activities and promote spiritual rhythm within the organization.
- Oversee and manage Employee Wellbeing initiatives, including overseeing and managing the vendor relationship to deliver an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), and to ensure awareness and access of them.
- Develop and monitor HR & Payroll budgets.
Strategy & Knowledge Development & Implementation
- Develop short and mid-term strategies to support people capability and workforce planning needs in alignment with global/regional strategy.
- Actively participate and engage with regional APAC HR and HR Community of Practice to leverage shared services and / or build local solutions.
Policies and Procedures
- Create, update, and implement HR policies for IJM Australia in compliance to Australian labour law, and to ensure alignment with relevant Global HR policies and processes.
- Ensure annual Criminal Record Checks & Working With Children Checks (WWCC) are kept up to date and documented for all staff, volunteers & Board members in accordance with our CrimCheck contract and Safeguarding policy.
- Ensure timely and accurate updates of employee handbook.
- Keep abreast of changes in employment-related regulations, with regards to employee-related internal practices and frameworks.
Training and Development
- Oversee the performance development framework and training needs by working with department leads and people managers. Promote regular staff check-ins on development and meeting of L&D goals.
- Oversee the L&D budget for IJM Australia and work with leaders to support the investment to staff for training needs; to also leverage on global or local solutions.
- Develop resources for line managers to use, leadership ethos / Management Charter(s) and best practice for growing and developing their teams. On a monthly basis, run a People Manager Community of Practice to actively support the development of people managers and their staff.
- Assess organizational training needs, and research and identify solutions that meet organizational knowledge and capability gaps.
Documentation, Reporting & Data Management
- Ensure that all employees and interns and fellows records are maintained in an accurate, up to date and confidential manner.
- Keep an up-to-date record of IJM Australia employee contact & emergency contact details, and ensure this is easily accessible for use by the Incident Management Team
- Develop an HR dashboard to manage and monitor people’s measures and KPIs that will inform the Executive team and AU Board on ‘cultural and people’ health within the organisation.
General tasks
- Workforce Planning
- Liaise with Employment lawyers for all legal matters, as needed.
- Ensure clear processes are in place and kept up to date on all people & culture practices for both staff and volunteers.
- Work with the APAC HR Business Partner in developing tools and documentation around employee levels, grading and salary bands – in liaison with IJM Global HR.
- Lead, analyze and provide recommendations from the quarterly staff engagement survey ensuring a comprehensive and anonymous collection of data.
- In support of IJM Australia’s values and our expression of a community of spiritual formation, participate in IJM’s rhythms of spiritual disciplines, including daily stillness, corporate prayer and devotions, quarterly prayer retreats, and individual annual days of solitude.
- Manage employee separation process by conducting exit interviews when necessary, ensure appropriate knowledge and IJM asset transfer.
- Offer tactical advice and support on various employee relations issues to managers, such as performance improvement, disciplinary issues, and employment related regulations.
Requirements:
- A minimum of 5 years relevant HR experience, preferably with prior work experience in a non-profit organisation
- Relevant qualifications in Human Resources, Business or related fields
- Extensive working knowledge of Australian employment laws and regulations
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and project management tools
- Workforce Planning
- Highly developed HR consulting skills as trusted partner
- Proficiency in managing HRIS (Employment Hero)
