The Program
Australia Awards PNG (AAPNG) support Papua New Guinea to achieve its development goals through education, knowledge transfer, and institutional capacity building, and to build enduring relationships with Australia.
We do this by supporting institution-to-institution partnerships and inclusive collaborations, forge people-to-people links, support high quality education, and strengthen accredited training institutions in PNG.
AAPNG offers the next generation of leaders in Papua New Guinea opportunities to acquire professional and technical knowledge and skills relevant to the priorities of the Government of PNG. The program ensures opportunities are provided for women, people with disabilities and people from rural and remote locations.
The program includes three study options:
- Australia Award Scholarships for Papua New Guineans to undertake long-term study in Australia, primarily at the postgraduate level;
- Australia Awards In-PNG Scholarships for Papua New Guineans to undertake long-term study in PNG to meet critical workforce gaps; and
- Australia Awards Short Course Awards for Papua New Guineans to undertake short-term professional development study in Australia or PNG, often receiving an Australian qualification.
The Position
We are looking for an experienced leader with a passion for empowering individuals and creating lasting connections, to manage a dedicated team, delivering exceptional support services and activities that unleash the full potential of AAPNG’s alumni network.
As a valued member of our Senior Management Team (SMT), you will play a pivotal role in fostering continuous improvement and innovation. Your expertise will ensure the highest quality delivery, maximizing program outcomes for AAPNG. Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing private sector partnerships and providing secretariat support to the esteemed PNG Australia Alumni Association (PNGAAA).
- Developing, implementing, and managing the Alumni strategy and plan, in alignment with the DFAT Australia Awards Alumni Network strategy.
- Overseeing the development and execution of professional development and networking activities for both awardees on award and alumni.
- Providing comprehensive secretariat support for the PNGAAA, facilitating effective collaboration and communication.
- Ensuring the welfare management of awardees in accordance with relevant policies and procedures, ensuring their well-being throughout their journey.
- Developing and nurturing relationships with our valued private sector partners, both existing and new, to further enhance the program’s impact.
- Ensuring regular updates and compliance with relevant standard operating procedures, maintaining the highest standards of operation.
- Making valuable contributions to the program’s communications activities, supporting the creation of high-quality public diplomacy products for the Australian High Commission in PNG.
The Person
Our ideal candidate will be degree qualified in human resource development, international development, business administration or a similar discipline, with experience operating at a senior management level in the planning and management of international education or training, such as university administration, student recruitment, admissions, and/or scholarship management. You will be able to effectively deliver strategic leadership to ensure the effectiveness of planning, decision making and meeting deliverables, and be an active paid member of the PNG Australia Alumni Association.
Finally, you will have proven understanding of gender equality, disability and social inclusion, child protection and fraud control, and a demonstrated preparedness to mainstream these considerations into program activities.
