About the Role

The Senior Manager, Business Development Unit is responsible to undertake strategic planning to secure institutional funding and mobilise resources that contribute to CARE Australia and country office strategic priorities. They will work collaboratively with colleagues across the organisation and within the unit to develop and execute bid strategies. The senior manager will be expected to coach staff within the team engaged in the preparation of funding proposals and tenders and will contribute as appropriate to ensure high quality submissions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to strategy development and planning that supports the development of a sustainable program focused primarily on the Pacific and SE Asia
  • Collaborate with CARE International and CARE Australia colleagues to strengthen our shared approach to resource mobilisation
  • Collaborate with CARE International and CARE Australia colleagues to develop resource mobilisation strategies to undertake positioning to identify new institutional funding streams
  • Coordinate, draft and review technical proposals, including multi-country and CA managed initiatives
  • Support the alignment of institutional funding, private sector funding and new business initiatives with CA
  • Strengthen and refine the CARE Australia program management procedures and related resource mobilisation procedures, particularly from the identification of an opportunity through to project inception e.g. identification, tracking, filtering, go/no go decisions, narrative and budget concept/proposal/project design preparation and contract negotiation
  • Ensure compliance with CARE Australia procedures for narrative and financial concept/proposal project design submissions and contractual requirements
  • Contribute to the leadership and the management of daily operations within the International Programs department

Ideally you will have:

  • At least 5 years’ direct experience in fundraising, proposal/tender preparation and/or resource mobilisation for international development agencies.
  • Familiarity with institutional donor agency cultures and ways of working, especially DFAT, Managing Contractors and the UN system.
  • Familiarity of working with the corporate/private sector to support humanitarian and/or development projects and programs would be well regarded.
  • Strong project management skills to lead and support the submission of tenders and funding proposals.
  • Experience of training and capacity building in methods, systems, and approaches to resource mobilisation and institutional fund raising.
  • Strong knowledge of project finance and budgeting for international humanitarian and development projects.
  • Experience of building and managing a team and engaging with a broad range of stakeholders.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to represent the Unit’s work articulately in internal and external forums.
  • An understanding of the importance of empowering women and girls and a commitment to the protection of children and the prevention of sexual harassment, exploitation and abuse.
  • Experience of training and or developing the capacity and skills of non-specialists.
