The New Business, Institutional Fundraising Department, supports PSI country offices and health technical departments in fundraising/business development with large institutional donors. PSI seeks applicants for the position of Senior Manager, Institutional Fundraising (IF) to help direct PSI’s activities in developing new business worldwide with bilateral and multilateral donors. PSI’s IF department offers program design and proposal development assistance to HQ-led and field-based programs when responding to requests for proposals from the US government, FCDO, KFW, World Bank, UNITAID, GAVI, and many other donors. The Department has annual fundraising goals typically in excess of $300 million. IF also provides additional fundraising support to PSI country platforms facing funding shortfalls and increasingly will support fundraising for new health areas. The department also builds the capacity of PSI’s country platforms to prepare proposals.

We are looking for a Senior Manager, IF that will manage all aspects of proposal development for large, organizationally strategic, and global proposals by leading a team of field and headquarters staff to conduct capture planning, program design, and proposal writing; this includes establishing and enforcing timelines, designating roles and responsibilities, identifying and negotiating with partner organizations, coordinating inputs, and overseeing proposal submission. Lead departmental projects, including capacity building and process improvements. Manage, train, and mentor junior departmental staff. The position is a demanding, challenging and exciting role, requiring a dynamic individual with highly developed interpersonal and communication skills, excellent writing skills, a sharp focus on details, and demonstrated experience leading teams in complex processes.

Responsibilities

Your contributions

-Lead proposal development and writing on large, strategically important, and global bids, including facilitating strategy discussions, drafting the narrative (including executive summary, technical approach, staffing and management, monitoring and evaluation, organizational capabilities, etc.) and incorporating reviewer feedback. 45% of the Time -Supervise and develop team members. Make recommendations concerning employment, termination, performance evaluations, salary actions, and other personnel actions. Set team and individual goals. Prioritize, organize, delegate, and coordinate the flow of work. Enhance individual employee performance through frequent and timely communication and support. 15% of the Time -Lead capture planning for upcoming proposals. 15% of the Time -Lead partner identification and partner negotiation for both prime and sub roles. 10% of the Time -Lead projects that contribute to PSI’s systems for pursuing new business, including fundraising strategy inputs and donor prospecting. 10% of the Time -Review proposals written by other NBD staff and field/technical teams. 5% of the time

Qualifications

What are we looking for?

-Bachelor’s Degree (or international equivalent) in health, policy, international development, or a related field. -Master’s Degree (or international equivalent) in health or international development preferred. -At least 10 years of experience in business development, fundraising, professional writing or international development (international health sector preferred). Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted. -At least 3 years of supervisory experience. -Demonstrated experience leading proposal development and fundraising/grantwriting on complex bids, as well as experience within and outside the industry to solve complex proposal challenges. -Proven writing, editing, and verbal communication skills. Demonstrated by significant contributions to winning proposals and concept notes of increasing complexity. Ability to capture and distill complex information. -Advanced understanding of donor compliance (priority donors preferred – USAID, DFID, GFATM). -Proven experience facilitating and developing strategic plans or programs. -Extensive problem solving and negotiation skills. -Strong leadership, employee development and management skills. Knowing when to coach, when to advise and when to provide specific direction. -Public health experience strongly preferred. -International experience strongly preferred. -Foreign language skills preferred (French, Spanish, Portuguese).
