Reporting to the Director of Partnerships, the Senior Manager, Major Gifts will lead and support the cultivation and stewardship of individual partners in a fashion that meaningfully engages partners and cultivates a values-aligned donor community. In concert with the Partnerships & Communications (P&C) team, this individual will be primarily focused on new business development for high net worth individuals, and designing thoughtful cultivation strategies for new and potential partners to LMH. This individual will also manage existing individual giving, family foundations, and major gifts portfolios and provide leadership for LMH’s donor facing events & site visits.

This individual is extremely comfortable engaging potential partners and can confidently articulate LMH’s value proposition and areas of alignment with donor interests. The Senior Manager, Major Gifts will demonstrate high levels of autonomy in prospecting, preparing for engagement, and engaging with new partners. In addition, this role will develop recommendations for prioritization of funding prospects, as well as associated cultivation strategies. This position will be responsible for developing and implementing systems that ensure highly tailored cultivation and stewardship strategies for each relationship. This individual will have strong internal and external relationship management, process development, and organizational skills that will support them in helping to deliver LMH’s development goals. The Partnerships & Communications (P&C) team is responsible for raising upwards of $US 30 million annually, and as part of our highly collaborative team, the Senior Manager, Major Gifts will have the chance to contribute across all of our funder segments in achieving that goal

This role is open to national and international candidates located in or willing to relocate to Accra, Ghana. This role is also open to candidates located in the Eastern Seaboard of the United States with US work authorization.

What You’ll Do

Actively cultivate a pipeline of new business to the achievement of organizational revenue targets. Manage & grow LMH’s portfolio of new philanthropic partners. This includes:

  • Achieve revenue targets associated with individual giving, high net worth individuals, and family foundations
  • Undertake ongoing, active prospecting, including the development of materials and briefing in support of engagement with prospective partners
  • Develop and implement cultivation plans for each high-priority prospective partner, developed in collaboration with Primary Relationship Owners (PROs)
  • Conduct ongoing stewardship using a high touch engagement model
  • Maintain responsiveness to inbound requests from donor and ecosystem partners
  • Work closely with members of the P&C team to ensure delivery of high-quality, accurate, and timely concept notes, grant proposals, and other donor communication materials as needed
  • Manage LMH’s annual appeal, which occurs at the end of each calendar year
  • Support LMH’s participation in events and activities to recognize and motivate current and prospective donors, including prospecting attendees and developing briefings/talking points

Plan and manage LMH’s donor-facing events

  • Manage internal coordination with Programs colleagues and Communications team to develop content for LMH’s Quarterly Insight & Advisory Council calls; plan & manage the event; and collaborate with LMH colleagues to manage follow up
  • Provide strategic oversight and communications guidance for donor-facing events, including site visits, and deliverables (eg, partnering with Communications and Programs teams to storyboard, developing presentation decks for donor presentations, crafting talking points, coaching colleagues to deliver talking points)
  • Manage internal coordination to develop content for donor-specific presentations and speaking engagements; plan & manage the event; and manage follow up
  • Determine the potential for additional donor-facing events as aligned to fundraising goals for individuals, family foundations, and high net worth individuals; develop a strategy and tactics for such events

Support P&C systems and processes that facilitate high-quality fundraising and development practices

  • Diligently use and support donor relationship management tools, such as tracking all donor communication in Salesforce
  • Design, participate in, and in some cases, facilitate internal coordination meetings relating to programmatic planning and growth in order to inform new business development strategies
  • Provide strategic thinking around portfolio revenue targets, serving as an internal expert and advisor on high-capacity individuals; track and respond to anticipated funding opportunities and challenges

What you’ll bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field
  • Progressive years of relevant experience in a relationship management role with proven track record of securing five- to six-figure gifts from individuals and family foundations
  • Proven track record of successful relationship management; strong emotional intelligence, ability to connect with donors and relationship-building qualities
    • Demonstrated customer service orientation, both internal and external
  • Proven attention to detail
    • Attention to detail in written deliverables and ability to independently manage processes for ensuring accuracy in written work
  • Extremely strong verbal and written communication skills; ability to craft and effectively communicate key audience-focused messages/materials, galvanizing donors to support
  • Effective process development and organization skills
    • Ability to work independently with limited structural support
    • Ability to proactively develop and manage next steps related to relationship management, cultivation, and deliverables development
  • Flexibility and ability to handle multiple tasks at one time in time-sensitive manner
    • Demonstrated ability to independently prioritize and re-prioritize tasks as they are assigned with no “dropped balls”
  • Comfort working with a casual and high-performing team, working across various cultures and backgrounds

Compensation for this position:

The band for this position: Band 3

For Ghana, the range is $37,100- $51,940 USD dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that compensation is subject to Ghana taxes.

For International Staff the range is: $67,100 – $81,940 USD dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that compensation is subject to Ghana taxes.

For the US, the range is $75,549 – $87,801 dependent upon experience doing an equivalent role. Please note that compensation is subject to US taxes.
