Senior Nutrition Advisor At Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition is seeking a dynamic Senior Nutrition Advisor in Mozambique to support the Country team in fulfilling the vision and strategy of the food and nutrition portfolio in country. This role is offered on an initial fixed term contract of up to 24 months, with the possibility that this might be extended for a longer term thereafter.

The Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN) is a Swiss-based foundation launched at the UN in 2002 to tackle the human suffering caused by malnutrition. Working with both governments and businesses, we aim to transform food systems so that they deliver more nutritious food for all people. In particular, we aim to make healthier food choices more desirable, more available, and more affordable. GAIN’s mission is to advance nutrition outcomes by improving consumption of nutritious and safe food for all people, especially the most vulnerable to malnutrition.

About the Role

The purpose of the Senior Nutrition Advisor is to provide expertise in nutrition to support the quality of GAIN’s existing and future nutrition specific and sensitive interventions/activities and projects. The Senior Nutrition Advisor’s prime responsibility is to ensure a high quality of technical support to GAIN Mozambique’s work in both rural and urban developmental contexts. They will lead the development and documentation of best practices and will promote organizational learning. The role will be mainly based in Maputo, Mozambique but includes regular travel to the country provinces.

This position will functionally report to the Country Director, Mozambique with all technical aspects of the work managed by the Director, Knowledge Leadership.

Specific Responsibilities include;

  • Providing guidance and technical support to GAIN’s activities in the form of program/project implementation, monitoring and evaluation
  • Supporting research and evidence translation efforts, working closely with other units across GAIN
  • Working with the global Knowledge Leadership team, supporting the Country Director and Portfolio Leads as needed, including on resource mobilisation and dissemination activities
  • Leading critical analysis and interpretation of monitoring and research results to formulate recommendations on program actions, improvements and lessons learned
  • Facilitating learning, synthesis, documentation and sharing of experience/learning of nutrition within the GAIN Mozambique office
  • Participating and contributing actively in regional and/or global forums, technical and expert groups to ensure GAIN Mozambique adds value to the nutrition community
  • Providing expert input related to nutrition strategies, if relevant, to Government Policies
  • Representing GAIN Mozambique at industry meetings, forums, dissemination events and media events

About You

To be considered for this position, it is essential that you have excellent understanding of quantitative and qualitive research and analysis, along with strong project management skills and experience with workplan development/implementation. You should be able to demonstrate extensive experience in delivering nutrition and/or nutrition sensitive programs in developing country settings. You should have broad experience in public health program monitoring operations, research and impact evaluation.

In addition, you will need to have a strong educational background in nutrition and hold either a Masters or PhD in the field or have equivalent work experience. Fluency in English and Portuguese (written and spoken) is essential.

About our Offer

The starting salary on offer for this role is $51,294 per annum.

GAIN has a fair and competitive salary structure that allows for annual progression subject to good performance.
