Senior Programme Advisor – Violence against children portfolio at Family for Every Child

This role is home based, within in either New Zealand, Australia, Malaysia, UK, India, Kenya or South Africa.

This is a permanent position, with a salary of GBP £50-55,000 equivalent – fixed in local currency. Salary will be determined based on experience and adjusted to the local market rate.

Flexible working patterns are possible, with the expectation that regardless of time zone you will be able to work flexibly to support work with colleagues in different time zones including occasional work outside normal working hours.

Key Responsibilities:

You will provide technical support, thematic and strategic oversight of the portfolio, developing and accompanying our members’ work and identifying opportunities for joint actions – the development of ideas and initiatives leading to collaboration, practice exchange and advocacy.

You will strengthen the strategic implementation of our participatory approach as a key element for delivering our impact and overall strategy; provide advisory support for all projects, collaborative work, research or joint actions related to participation of children and people with lived experience; and lead in developing a strategic direction of participation with meaningful engagement of members (within and outside the Alliance) and based on the lessons learnt from the different pieces of participation project.

You will have significant expertise in the areas of safeguarding, child protection, violence against children (including the current themes of the Alliance on sexual violence and domestic violence affecting children) and child participation. With a strong understanding of the international development sector, and knowledge of key issues in child protection and child care in different regions, you will have working knowledge of good practice in research and advocacy work with vulnerable groups to achieve impact, particularly at a national level and how this can be used effectively for long term change. With both sound project management and research skills you will have an understanding of methodologies for sensitive and responsible child participation in research and advocacy. You will have a respectful and empathetic approach to working with civil society organisations, and experience of working in a multicultural setting.

Excellent command of English (oral and written) is a must, but a working knowledge of Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic or French would be appreciated.

Times will be arranged to fit around UK and India working hours and therefore early morning or late evening interviews maybe necessary depending on your location.
