Our Opportunity
The researcher role involves leading on Siren’s security sector reform research agenda. The researcher will craft high-quality research outputs vital for strategic programmatic decision-making, engagement with domestic and international policy makers and participation in professional and academic communities of practice. Additionally, s/he will facilitate capacity building in research methodologies for staff. S/he will support strengthening organizational learning, knowledge management and contribute to business development opportunities.
You Will
- Work with the Management team to identify research opportunities from existing programme data, emerging trends from programme implementation, and contextual developments related to Security Sector Reform (SSR).
- Lead the design, data collection, analysis and write up of Siren’s SSR programme research and evaluation agenda.
- Draft quality and professional research products to inform programme planning, strategic decision-making, tailored to both domestic and international policy audience.
- Work with the Management and business development team on identifying relevant forums and platforms to present research findings.
- Plan and implement capacity building activities on research design, sampling methodologies, and data analysis techniques for programme staff.
- Support the Management team with relevant research inputs for programme development and donor briefings.
To Be Successful in The Role You Will Need
Essential:
- Experience working on public sector, governance or rule of law projects, ideally with a strong or primary emphasis on the security sector.
- At least 8 years’ experience commissioning and delivering research activities.
- Master’s degree required in relevant field, or equivalent combination of education and work experience in a relevant competency area, including statistics, international development, economic, political science, a relevant social science or other.
- Outstanding written communication skills in English, including demonstrable ability to produce high quality research and analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to interact and communicate with a wide range of domestic and international policy makers and public servants both verbally and in writing.
- Proven experience in managing multiple and competing tasks while maintaining quality of deliverables within deadlines.
- Good understanding of project cycle and results-based management.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft suite
Desirable:
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in Arabic
- Experience using Tableau, PowerBi and other information management and visualisation tools.
- Experience showing innovative approaches to research in complex contexts.
- Experience with international donors, preferably USAID, FCDO, EU.
