VOL4GEN – “EU Aid Volunteers supporting gender mainstreamingin humanitarian action” is a 36-month project conceived under thegeneral objective of enhancing gender mainstreaming inhumanitarian contexts. To this aim, the project will deploy 56 volunteers to 17 Hosting Organisations in 14 countries andimplement technical assistance and capacity building activitiesthat will strengthen the capacity of Hosting Organisations and local communities to reduce the risk of disaster and reduce vulnerabilities, focused on putting the needs of women and girls atthe forefront. This will be complemented with the action of on-linevolunteers.This project is led by Alianza por la Solidaridad-Actionaid, in the framework of a consortium that brings together 21 organisations. Alianza por la Solidaridad, We World GVC, and Actionaid Hellas act
as Sending Organisations; the Hosting Organisations will welcome volunteers in 14 countries of Latin America & Caribbean (Colombia,Peru, Bolivia, Brazil, Guatemala, Cuba, Haiti), Africa (Kenya,Mauritania, Morocco), Middle East (Jordan, Palestine, Lebanon) and Asia.
TASKS
Mobilization and awareness raising
This position will provide support to the Makima LRP coordinator in strengthening the knowledge and capacity of ActionAid local partners, particularly the women networks, farmer groups and agro-pastoralists to implement quality resilience programmes through promotion of ecosystems based adaptation models that are climate resilient and protect livelihoods assets in Mbeere sub-county, Makima LRP.
The tasks include:
• Support mobilization of community members, especially women, create awareness and build their capacity to analyse their vulnerabilities and act on drought risks and climate change issues.
• Identify sustainable and suitable climate change interventions and programmes that are applicable in the context and have impact on the reduction of the effects of climate change to local communities.
• Support, in collaboration with the LRP coordinator, communities led by women to initiate climate change analysis and climate change adaptation actions.
Climate Change adaptation Planning and Implementation
• Provide strategic direction and quality assurance of programmeimplementation in relation to climate change adaptation and ecosystem-basedinterventions.
• Support local partners’ implementation of adaptation activities related to the Rural Livelihood’s Adaptation to Climate Change in collaboration with the Programme Coordinator.
Capacity Building
• Support the training of women on the interpretation and the application of climate information for disaster risk reduction.
• Support in the identification of the capacity building needs required forbuilding a community climate change adaptation in order to facilitate resilience.
• Ensure coordination and synergy with other technical components of programming as well as other cross cutting areas such as communication, accountability and institutional strengthening.
Documentation
• Support in the documentation of the best practices and the successful storiesof change.
• Review and ensure that project outputs and reports are delivered to therequired standard, in line with agreed specifications of the work plan and other commitments.
Knowledge sharing and learning
• Participate in and contribute to relevant in-country and cross-country learning and knowledge sharing events and processes within the ActionAid Federation,such as the Youth Community of Interest.
• In collaboration with the Programme Manager and Programme Coordinator,liaise with key stakeholders such as the Ministry of Environment, the National Drought Management Authority and other agencies to coordinate and sharelessons learned from the project.
Communication and Awareness on EU Aid Volunteers Initiative
Promote local volunteerism in disaster risk reduction, prevention and response.
• Promote partnerships and collaboration between local and Europeanorganizations;
• Draft and publish articles describing volunteer’s experience in the field incooperation with the communications team in AA Kenya and AA Hellas.
• Gather audio-visual materials to be used in a public awareness activity in thevolunteer’s local community in Europe in consultation with AA Kenya.
• In coordination with the NGOs partner of the project, organize and execute apublic awareness activity once back in Europe.
