The International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) is a worldwide network of judges and lawyers united in affirming international law and rule of law principles that advance human rights.
We are recruiting a Facilitator to work on the implementation of various activities in Eswatini focused sexual and gender-based violence and the Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Act, 2018 (SODV Act). These activities include organizing workshops and events with key stakeholders, including civil society organizations and judicial officers, and producing reports and recommendations.
The Facilitator would be required to ensure the implementation of these activities by 5 November 2021 on a full-time basis.
The ideal candidates have excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, as well as excellent organizational skills. In addition, they must be familiar with international and regional human rights law and standards gender based violence; and they must also have an understanding of the political and legal landscape in Eswatini regarding these issues. Furthermore, they should also have a strong familiarity with relevant actors and stakeholders in Eswatini with regard to these issues.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Under the supervision of the Director of the Africa Regional Programme, the Facilitator will contribute to implementing the ICJ’s Africa Regional Programme of work in Eswatini, in particular:
● Organising and facilitating online and in person events and workshops focused on various issues including the implementation of the SODV Act. To this end, the Facilitators will:
● Draft preparatory documents including concept notes, invitations, programmes and agendas, and collate background materials and resources;
● Ensure effective participation in ICJ events;
● Draft activity reports and produce recommendations;
● Attend to communications activities including on social media and other mediums; and
● Attend to various administrative and research activities as may be required for the implementation of ICJ activities in Eswatini.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful candidate will have:
Education & Experience
● Law degree (having a masters is highly desirable);
● Experience with human rights law and standards, both at international and domestic levels. Experience in matters pertaining to gender-based violence is highly desirable;
● Good administrative and organizing skills;
● Excellent oral and written communication skills;
● Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-cultural team.
