Site Management Support Officer At Danish Refugee Council

Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Site Management Support Officer to be based in Warsaw, Poland.

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to promote and protect durable solutions to conflict and displacement affected populations on the basis of humanitarian principles and human rights. DRC is implementing a multi-sector response to support Ukraine refugees, IDPs and host populations both within Ukraine and in the neighbouring countries of Poland, Romania and Moldova and wider Europe. Since late February 2022, nearly 4 million Ukrainians and third-country nationals have crossed the border to Poland. As part of its neighboring country response, DRC is establishing an operational presence in Poland to support displaced populations through partnership with civil society organizations and national NGOs, duty bearers and other actors.

About the job

As Site Management Support (SMS) Officer you will be responsible for implementing site management support for DRC across sites in Poland, to enable a safe and dignified environment for the affected population. This includes coordinating technical assistance and capacity exchange projects for site management teams, as well as implementing light-touch site upgrades. The role entails building effective partnerships with a diversity of stakeholders, ranging from refugees, to volunteers, humanitarian partners, local communities, and government authorities. Your main duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Overseeing implementation of DRC’s site management support activities, working closely with partners at site level
  • Supporting site management teams (partners): this includes identifying training needs, coaching and support, introducing site management tools, building or developing existing coordination mechanisms
  • Maintaining and strengthening key relationships with site management teams in order to ensure smooth communication, activity implementation, data collection, and community outreach, as well as implementation of minimum standards in accordance with humanitarian principles
  • Assisting with all procurements and logistical arrangements related to the site, in collaboration with DRC procurement and logistics staff
  • Supporting any community services, youth activities, protection support and similar humanitarian programmes that may be undertaken on site
  • Supporting site-wide communication strategies to ensure information is being effectively disseminated to all site residents using a variety of mediums
  • Actively supporting information gathering and participatory assessments undertaken within the site
  • Monitoring, in close collaboration with the relevant head of programmes, all activities implemented by DRC on site and ensure all activities respect international standards for each sector
  • Providing feedback and reports to supervisor regarding work plans, contingency plans and general program implementation

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have a good understanding of site management (Camp Coordination and Camp Management), WASH, NFI/Shelter management, Protection mainstreaming, Logistics and Community Engagement. Moreover, we also expect the following:

Essential:

  • Demonstrated record of humanitarian experience
  • Proven ability to implement multi-disciplinary programs, coordinate logistics, and work with diverse groups
  • Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to establish effective working relations with governmental authorities and relevant stakeholders, international organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization
  • Proficient in a Microsoft Office environment and office software packages
  • Strong organizational, facilitation, communication, writing and presentations skills
  • Demonstrated ability to draft and prepare clear and concise formal correspondence and project reports
  • Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and keep deadlines with minimal supervision, and in a culturally diverse team
  • Strong work ethics and commitment to humanitarian principles
  • Polish – advanced
  • English – intermediate

Desirable:

  • Previous professional work experience in camp management, community mobilization and distributions in a leadership position, camp management
  • Relevant experience working with vulnerable groups
