JOB PURPOSE

This consultancy focuses on advancing WFP’s work on social and behaviour change (SBC) for nutrition in the Asia-Pacific region by providing technical and strategic support to WFP country offices and partners, with focus on diets and facilitating knowledge generation and sharing across countries.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Provide technical and strategic support to WFP country offices in the design, implementation, integration and monitoring and evaluation of the SBC components of their programme to ensure quality standards are met and expected results are generated and used.
  • Strengthen SBC competencies and skills in the region to achieve quality and sustainable social and behaviour change (results) in line with available standards.
    • Creating an SBC capacity ecosystem: i) Systematically identify capacity gaps of staff involved in/ associated with SBC and develop a regional capacity development plan with activities such as webinars, training materials, etc with external partnerships.
    • Identify external training opportunities, share with staff and encourage to pursue.
  • Lead the development of a regional strategic approach to SBC taking into account SBC integration across programmes.
    • Provide technical inputs on SBC integration in cross functional programming such as School Feeding implementation plan; Resilience; Social Protection; Cash Based Transfer; School Feeding; Gender; and any other programmes which seek integration.
  • Expand regional evidence & knowledge base on SBC facilitate and encourage its use for resource mobilization and advocacy for nutrition.
  • Identify and develop strategic partnerships with stakeholders relevant for SBC and engage in regional nutrition networks to coordinate efforts and ensure a coherent & effective SBC implementation at national level.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION

Master’s degree in social and behavioural sciences, as well as training in public health, nutrition, communications, anthropology or a related field.

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Eight years of professional experience implementing or advising social and behavioural change interventions related to health and nutrition.
  • Experience implementing large-scale SBCC programs in public health nutrition.
  • Experience designing and conducting formative research and monitoring and evaluation related to social and behaviour change.
  • Work experience with the UN or WFP would be an asset.

KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Expertise in formative research methods with familiarity in qualitative methods.
  • Excellent planning and time management skills.
  • Advocacy and networking skills with a broad range of stakeholders including government, private sector, civil society, academia, NGO and international cooperation.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of nutrition and food security experts across fourteen countries.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills required and communication skills.

LANGUAGE

  • Fluency knowledge of English language both verbal and writing is required.
