Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), an international humanitarian medical association created in 1971, provides medical assistance to populations whose lives are threatened: mainly in the event of armed conflict, but also epidemics, pandemics, natural disasters or even exclusion from care.
MSF operations are managed by 5 Operational Centres based in Paris, Barcelona, Brussels, Amsterdam and Geneva, united within an international movement (MSF Movement) bringing together a total of 24 associations.
MSF France is integrated into the Operational Center based in Paris (OCP).
The Intersection Legal Department is currently the only intersection department in the MSF Movement; its members are based in the different Operational Centers.
Its mission is to provide support and legal analyses to the MSF Movement and to the various Operational Centers, sections and offices and MSF International.
The HR Admin Service is a service of the HR department of MSF France and is responsible for the administrative, contractual and payroll management of head office employees (around 650 people) and international mobile employees (around 1,100 people).
As part of a temporary increase in activity, we are looking for a Social Law Lawyer.
Assignment
This position is shared between the Admin-HR Service (50%) and the MSF Intersection Legal Department (50%).
Within the HR Admin Department, under the responsibility of the HR Administration Manager , the lawyer provides knowledge and support in labor law and social protection law, participates in ensuring compliance of practices in terms of labor law, manages pre-litigation files and collaborates with external lawyers for the resolution of disputes in progress both before the industrial tribunal and the Paris Court of Appeal.
Within the MSF Intersection Legal Department, under the responsibility and supervision of the HR and Duty of Care Manager , the lawyer’s main mission is to provide legal advice and support to operational teams, particularly on the management of pre-litigation and litigation, in collaboration with the lawyers in post.
More specifically, the lawyer mainly manages the following subjects: disciplinary procedures for head office and international mobile employees, management of pre-litigation and litigation files, legal monitoring, compliance of MSF practices and legal documents (contracts, standard letters, etc.) and participation in various HR projects such as working time management, the contractual framework, the use of fixed-term contracts, teleworking, etc.
The position involves close collaboration with other lawyers in the Intersection Legal Department (whether in France or in other sections), but also with the various departments of MSF-France, as well as with teams in the field and international working groups.
This position is based in Paris and may involve, if necessary, travel to the field within the various MSF sections.
Your main missions:
The main activities are:
You will carry out all of your missions while ensuring the proper application of the strategy, policies and objectives defined by the Intersection HR and Legal Departments.
Provide advice and support to teams at headquarters, in the field and to the network of lawyers:
- Advise managers at headquarters and in the field and manage contentious cases by providing appropriate solutions and using our external firm where appropriate
- Ensure the application of legal procedures
- Manage the head office’s litigation files: gather supporting documents and send them to our law firm, review and amend the conclusions prepared by our external firm, study the files and their risks and make recommendations
- Participate in ensuring compliance with MSF HR practices and policies by providing knowledge of labor law and social protection law
- Ensure the implementation of tools to support cell and project teams and review of various legal documents from the HR Admin department (employment contracts, standard letters, etc.)
- Support the implementation of disciplinary procedures/sanctions for head office and international mobile employees (early returns to France, compliance with the scale of sanctions, participation in preliminary interviews, drafting of warnings, summonses, precautionary and disciplinary suspensions, dismissal letters, early termination of fixed-term contracts, transactions, etc.)
Participate in legal projects
- Provide advice and support to head office and field teams (HR, payroll, international mobility, etc.) in their area of expertise: labor law, social protection law, legal procedures
- Implement monitoring and reporting tools
- Organize and manage the use of external legal advice, particularly for MSF France
Transferring legal skills
- Development and updating of training content related to social law, social protection law and legal procedures
- Writing service notes, memos and guidelines
Carry out legal monitoring on your specialties/priority subjects:
- Capitalization, management of legal monitoring and writing of summary notes, memos, guides on priority subjects placed under his specific responsibility.
As part of your missions, you will be able to supervise interns, research officers or lawyers involved in the cases for which you will be responsible.
Professional skills
- You are a Lawyer / Attorney, with higher education (Master 2) in Social Law.
- You have at least 2 years of experience as a Lawyer/Solicitor in employment law.
- Headquarters or field experience with MSF is a plus.
Languages: You have a very good level of English and legal French.
Required qualities
You have strong abilities to:

Job specifics
Status: Full-time fixed-term contract (8 months), based in Paris, Jaurès metro station with the possibility of teleworking according to the rules in force at MSF.
**Conditions:**€46.6K gross per year over 13 months. 22 days of RTT per year. Health insurance 100% covered by MSF. Meal vouchers with a face value of €11 (60% covered by Médecins Sans Frontières). 50% coverage of public transport subscription.
