Social Media & Communications Coordinator

JOB SUMMARY
The ABA Center for Human Rights seeks a Social Media & Communications Coordinator for its trial monitoring program focusing on the cases of environmental human rights defenders in Peru.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Working together with the ABA staff, ABA in-house communications expert, and partners, the Social Media & Communications Coordinator will:

  • Develop and operationalize a communications strategy aimed at raising public awareness of violence against environmental defenders and insufficient justice responses
  • Identify several key campaigns to be implemented throughout the project period, including key messages, the communications platforms to be used, and key dates around which to center content
  • Develop key messages and generate social media content on a regular basis
  • Conduct regular outreach to print and broadcast publications to ensure coverage of report launches
  • Draft/edit press releases
  • Other duties as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with media outlets in Peru required; familiarity with Indigenous language media outlets in Peru preferred;
  • Adept at using a wide range of social media platforms including Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Linkedin, Tumblr, and Pinterest;
  • Experience designing communications campaigns and generating social media content
  • Native Spanish-speaker; knowledge of an indigenous language and/or English strongly preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Creativity and flexibility

  • Develop and implement a communication strategy to raise public awareness about violence against environmental defenders and the inadequate responses from the justice system.
  • Determine several key campaigns that will run throughout the project, including key messages, communication platforms to be used, and key dates around which content will be focused.
  • Develop key messages and generate content for social media on a regular basis.
  • Conduct regular contacts with print and broadcast publications to obtain coverage of report launches.
  • Writing and editing press releases
  • Other tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Familiarity with Peruvian media is required; familiarity with Peruvian indigenous language media is preferred;
  • Skilled in using a wide range of social media platforms such as Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, Google+, Instagram, Linkedin, Tumblr and Pinterest;
  • Experience in designing communication campaigns and generating content for social networks
  • Native Spanish speaker; knowledge of an indigenous language and/or English will be valued positively.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Creativity and flexibility
