Project Title: Strengthening Digital Media Skills for Female Journalists & Civil Society in Iraq

Contract Duration: October 15th, 2023- February 29th, 2024. This position is a part-time consultancy.

Scope: Media Campaigner will support, with another trainer, training and mentoring 9 female-focused Iraqi civil society organizations (CSOs) in designing, implementing, and monitoring a full-scale public or stakeholder campaign on topics chosen by the CSOs. The Social Media Trainer will develop a training curriculum and implement the program to 9 Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) from Iraq with the goal to increase awareness campaigns to their local communities.

About MiCT:

Media in Cooperation and Transition (MiCT) gGmbH is a German media development organisation that implements projects in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. MiCT’s activities focus on the interplay between conflict, media coverage and reconciliation. For the past 12 years MiCT has been conducting investigative reporting training and has produced investigative reports in cooperation with local journalists in Iraq, Egypt, Tunisia, Libya, Sudan & South Sudan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Maldives, as well as several countries in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Background:

In continuation of MiCT’s previous work, MiCT is looking for two social media trainers/mentors who will closely work with and support a group of 9 female-focused CSOs in Iraq by upskilling in their social media creation and output, ultimately strengthening their professional skills and supporting a female journalist/CSO network. MiCT is looking for social media trainers who have the technical know-how on training in content creation on social media (audience engagement, branding, visuals, campaigning). Each CSO will receive a stipend, which the trainer/mentor will also closely follow-up on.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop curriculum focused around CSOs skills and previous campaigns
  • Train and mentor jointly with another trainer/mentor the 9 CSOs to design, implement, and monitor a full-scale public or stakeholder campaign including building and executing social media strategy through competitive research, platform determination, benchmarking, messaging and audience identification.
  • Support the CSOs to create budget requests for their campaigns.
  • Collaborate to develop and monitor social media campaign and content strategy for each of the 9 CSOs, including generating, editing, publishing and sharing daily content (original text, images, video or HTML) that builds meaningful connections and encourages community members to take action
  • Ensure that each CSO continuously improves by capturing and analyzing the appropriate social data/metrics, insights and best practices, and then acting on the information
  • Analyze and report on the campaigns’ performance through analyzing marketing data (campaign results, conversion rates, etc.) to help shape future marketing strategies for campaigns.

Additional work:

  • Coordinate and work closely with the M&E coordinator.
  • Work closely with the MiCT team and forward recommendations based upon results.
  • Provide regularly updated reports on the status of implementation against the project goals and objectives to the Project Manager.
  • Work remotely with other stakeholders through calls, emails and other online platforms

Required:

  • A BS in communications, new media/public relations, online marketing or at least 5 years running digital campaigns
  • Demonstrated experience in executing digital campaigns on Facebook and Instagram with the Facebook Business Manager
  • Demonstrated experience in creating engaging content, optimizing organizational pages, and fostering community interaction through social media
  • Demonstrated experience utilizing analytics to drive community engagement, page traffic, and generating growth.
  • Experience in training online to a diverse group
  • Experience in building tailor-made curriculum
  • Excellent consulting, writing, editing (photo/video/text), presentation and communication skills
  • Fluency in Arabic and proficiency in English (speaking, reading, writing) are essential.
  • Have a comprehensive understanding of various social media platforms and know how to optimize content for maximum engagement.
  • High professionalism, self-motivation, efficiency, and results-oriented delivery on short timelines.
  • Knowledge of online marketing and good understanding of major marketing channels

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience and familiarity with gender related issues and the political situation in Iraq.
  • Have experience mentoring
  • Ideally based in Iraq or familiar with Iraq context and female-related topics
  • Positive attitude, detail and customer oriented with good multitasking and organizational ability
