Spark Fund Fellowship Program for Vietnamese Youth At Global Fund for Children

Global Fund for Children* (GFC)  is looking for 10 Vietnamese youth to participate in the Spark Fund Fellowship Southeast Asia program.

Spark Fund Fellowship is a program under the Spark Fund Southeast Asia initiative. This is a two-year program with the goal of providing flexible financial support and capacity building for young individuals with a deep passion for solving problems related to climate change and the environment in Vietnam, especially individuals from disadvantaged communities.

What is Spark Fund Southeast Asia?

Southeast Asia Spark Fund (referred to as SEA Spark Fund) is a participatory grantmaking program to support climate actions initiated and operated by Southeast Asian youth. SEA Spark Fund is part of GFC’s global Spark Fund initiative. At Spark Fund, important decisions are made by young people, while the Fund also provides young leaders with flexible funding and capacity building opportunities.

In 2023, GFC launched the first funding round of the SEA Spark Fund in Thailand. The fund is designed and run by a core group of 15 young leaders from Vietnam, Thailand, and Singapore. Applying a multilingual technology platform to the decision-making process, the team selected 06 youth initiatives across Thailand. These initiatives have received grants ranging from 5,000 to 15,000 USD to be used flexibly in project and organizational activities to contribute to increasing resilience and adaptation to climate change in communities. native copper.

In 2024, we are pleased to launch the first Spark Fund Fellowship program for young Vietnamese people. The Foundation’s core team will continue to lead the decision-making process in selecting 10 Vietnamese candidates to participate in this two-year program.

English is not a mandatory criterion  to participate in this program. The program will take place mainly in Vietnamese, with some activities in English or Thai with the support of interpretation services.

What will you receive when participating in the SEA Spark Fund Fellowship program?

• Khoản tài trợ lên tới 8000 USD/ứng viên/năm trong vòng hai năm. Khoản tài trợ này có vai trò như một phần trợ cấp sinh hoạt để cá nhân có thể tập trung vào các nỗ lực tạo ra thay đổi tích cực cho cộng đồng. Các cá nhân được lựa chọn có thể sử dụng sự hỗ trợ tài chính này một cách linh hoạt phù hợp với mục tiêu của mình. Dưới đây là một vài gợi ý:
  • Trợ cấp sinh hoạt.
  • Chi phí đào tạo, học tập phát triển cá nhân và năng lực lãnh đạo.
  • Chi trả cho chi phí di chuyển vì mục đích học hỏi và phát triển mạng lưới.

• Hỗ trợ từ GFC để hoàn thành mục tiêu cá nhân và duy trì tính bền vững của các hành động vì biến khí hậu và môi trường.
• Cơ hội kết nối với các đối tác của quỹ Spark Fund và nhóm thanh niên nòng cốt tại khu vực Đông Nam Á thông qua các nền tảng online và hội thảo trực tiếp.
• Tham gia các chương trình nâng cao năng lực tập trung vào năng lực lãnh đạo và các phương pháp thiết kế hoạt động có sự tham gia.
• Nhận được sự cố vấn (mentorship) từ chuyên gia cho quá trình phát triển bản thân và thiết kế giải pháp khí hậu.

Ai có thể tham gia?

• Công dân Việt Nam từ 18-35 tuổi, đang sinh sống tại Việt Nam.
• Những cá nhân có kinh nghiệm trong vai trò thủ lĩnh của các sáng kiến hướng tới giải quyết vấn đề biến đổi khí hậu và môi trường tại Việt Nam.
• Những cá nhân có sự đam mê và cam kết thúc đẩy sự thay đổi có ý nghĩa cho bối cảnh khí hậu của Việt Nam.
• Cam kết tham gia đầy đủ chương trình SEA Spark Fund Fellowhip từ tháng 6 năm 2024 đến tháng 6 năm 2026.

Ngoài việc đáp ứng các tiêu chí trên, SEA Spark Fund ưu tiên hồ sơ của các cá nhân:

• Cư trú ở nông thôn.
• Thuộc cộng đồng thu nhập thấp.
• Thuộc các nhóm bị lề hóa do bối cảnh xã hội và lịch sử.

Vì vậy, chúng tôi hoan nghênh những ứng viên có kinh nghiệm giải quyết các vấn đề khí hậu trong sự tương quan với các vấn đề kinh tế – xã hội khác như nghèo đói, giới tính, sức khỏe cộng đồng, di cư. Chúng tôi khuyến khích ứng viên từ tất cả các lĩnh vực chuyên môn và ngành nghề đăng ký tham gia chương trình này.

Tham gia bằng cách nào?

Lưu ý: Ứng viên có thể lựa chọn nộp hồ sơ ứng tuyển bằng tiếng Việt hoặc Tiếng Anh mà không có bất kì sự phân biệt nào.

2. Hãy chia sẻ về sáng kiến thanh niên vì biến đổi khí hậu và môi trường mà bạn đang tham gia hay đang ấp ủ thực hiện trong tương lai. Vai trò của bạn trong các dự án đó là gì?
3. Bạn sẽ làm gì để tối ưu hóa khoản trợ cấp từ Chương trình SEA Spark Fellowship cho sự phát triển cá nhân và nỗ lực hành động vì vấn đề khí hậu và môi trường của mình?

Spark Fund Fellowship Program for Vietnamese Youth

Global Fund for Children (GFC) is on the lookout for 10 dynamic Vietnamese youths to join our Southeast Asia (SEA) Spark Fund Fellowship Program.

The SEA Spark Fund Fellowship Program is a part of Southeast Asia Spark Fund initiatives. This transformative two-year program aims to provide resources and flexibility to young individuals who are deeply passionate about addressing climate change and environmental issues in Vietnam.

What is the Southeast Asia (SEA) Spark Fund?

The SEA Spark Fund is a participatory grantmaking initiative that supports youth-led climate action across Southeast Asia. This innovative fund puts key decisions in the hands of youth and provides young leaders with flexible funding and capacity development.

In 2023, GFC launched the first round of SEA Spark Fund in Thailand. A youth panel comprising of 15 changemakers from Vietnam, Singapore and Thailand led the funds design and implementation. Using a multilingual technology platform to facilitate decision-making, the panelists selected a cohort of 6 youth-led initiatives across Thailand. These initiatives were awarded grants ranging from $5,000 to $15,000 towards community-level climate resilience and adaptation.

This year, we are excited to launch the first ever Spark Fund fellowship program for individuals in Vietnam. The youth panel will select 10 individuals in Vietnam to take part in this two-year initiative.

English is not a mandatory requirement for participation in this fellowship program. The program will primarily be conducted in Vietnamese, with occasional sessions conducted in English or Thai, facilitated by multilingual translation services.

What does the SEA Spark Fund Fellowship offer?

• A stipend of up to $8000 per fellow per year for two years. This will be a living stipend to support the individuals’ changemaking efforts. This may include, but is not mandatory or exclusive to:
  • Personal living allowances.
  • Personal or leadership development costs.
  • Travel for learning and networking.
• Support from GFC towards the individuals’ goals and sustainability of their climate actions.
• Networking opportunities with our Spark Fund partners and youth panelists in Southeast Asia through digital technologies as well as face-to-face convenings.
• Tailored capacity-building sessions focusing on individual leadership and participatory approaches.
• A professional mentor to nurture personal growth and program development.

Who can apply?

• Vietnamese citizens aged 18-35, residing in Vietnam.
• Individuals who have demonstrable leadership experience in tackling climate change and environmental issues in Vietnam.
• Passionate individuals committed to driving meaningful change in Vietnam’s climate landscape.
• Willingness to fully engage in the fellowship program from June 2024 to June 2026.

In addition to meeting the criteria above, SEA Spark Fund will prioritize applications from individuals that:

• Reside in rural areas.
• Belong to low-income communities.
• Belong to historically and socially marginalized groups.

We understand that climate degradation is not a single issue but one that intersects with many of the injustices that exist in the world. Therefore, we welcome applicants who have experience in addressing climate issues and social issues such as gender, public health, and migration. Regardless of background or profession, all are encouraged to apply for this program.

The application form includes a brief survey for your personal information, and three questions that you should address concisely within a maximum of 350 words each:

1. Share your journey of commitment and passion towards addressing climate change and invironmental issues in your community. What inspired your current journey?
2. What youth-led climate initiative are you currently working on or dreaming to bring to life? What role do you play in this initiative?
3. Please outline how you intend to utilize the stipend from the SEA Spark Fund Fellowship Program to support your personal growth and efforts in addressing climate change?

24th – 30th May: Final decision making led by SEA Spark Fund Youth panel

2nd June: Announcement to winner

15th -19th June: Kick-off and celebration event in Chiang Mai, Thailand (fully funded)
