The FIDH International Secretariat is an organization on a human scale and composed of a committed international team (49 employees in France, 20 employees distributed in several offices abroad (Brussels, Geneva, The Hague, Bangkok). Our Paris office is located in a lively and central district of Paris (near Bastille and Gare de Lyon).

We are recruiting a:  INTERN AT THE AFRICA OFFICE (M/F)

The intern will participate in the activities of the Africa Office and will provide support to the numerous ongoing activities. He/she will be particularly associated with the following activities:

Your missions:

A. Participation in the distribution and dissemination of the productions of the Africa office to member and partner organizations, as well as on the FIDH website and on social networks

  • Facilitate the dissemination of reports, notes, press releases, declarations and other documents produced by the Africa Office on the FIDH website, in French and English, in coordination with the FIDH Communication department, as well as the documents produced as part of advocacy activities: ordinary sessions of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), sessions of the United Nations Human Rights Council, any other relevant mechanism)
  • Relay the above information, as well as any other relevant information, on social networks, including on the Africa Twitter account, in coordination with the FIDH Communication department
  • Produce and distribute the Africa office press review on a weekly basis

B. Facilitate the animation of the FIDH network and interaction with member organizations

  • Facilitate the organization and monitoring of meetings, in English and French, with member organizations and members of the International Bureau (IB) for the Africa region
  • Coordinate responses and general information sharing between the Africa office, member organizations, IB Africa members and other FIDH departments and offices

C. Provide support to the Africa team in carrying out its daily tasks, including in the organization of missions and workshops, notably

  • Preparing documentation, contact, judicial and advocacy missions, particularly in Guinea and Sudan
  • Writing documents, press releases, and articles in French and English,
  • Preparing and participating in events, including advocacy meetings, in Europe or internationally, particularly during advocacy actions carried out with French authorities, the European Union, or even during sessions of the African Commission on People’s and Human Rights (ACHPR) and the United Nations Human Rights Council
  • Monitoring developments, trends and decisions on human rights issues in Africa, including monitoring of electoral contexts
  • Contribution to the development of project/partnership proposals on human rights in Africa as well as associated fundraising efforts
  • Proofreading, editing, translation (English and French) of publications and other internal documents.

Required profile :

  • You are in the process of preparing a 3rd cycle Master’s degree in law / international law / human rights / international relations
  • You know how to communicate and write fluently in English (C1) and French (C1)
  • You have a pronounced interest in international law and the defense of human rights and in particular in political and human rights issues on the African continent
  • You are comfortable with social media and have excellent writing skills
  • An interest in the associative sector would be very appreciated

Conditions and terms:

  • Full-time internship (39 hours per week)
  • Mandatory condition: have an internship agreement issued by a French educational establishment
  • Monthly bonus of €659.76 (i.e. €4.35 per hour). Dematerialized restaurant voucher card with a face value of €9, 60% covered by the FIDH. 50% coverage of the public transport subscription with proof, or sustainable mobility package
  • 12 days of RTT over the period and acquisition of 2 days of paid leave per month
  • The internship will take place at the FIDH headquarters in Paris, partial teleworking possible.

  • Monitoring developments, trends and decisions on human rights issues in Africa, including monitoring electoral contexts
  • Contributing to the development of project/partnership proposals on human rights in Africa and associated fundraising efforts
  • Proofreading, editing and translating (English and French) publications and other internal documents.

Profile required :

  • You are currently working towards a postgraduate degree in law/international law/human rights/international relations.
  • You are able to communicate and write fluently in English (C1) and French (C1)
  • You have a keen interest in international law and the defence of human rights, and in particular in political and human rights issues on the African continent
  • You are comfortable using social networks and have excellent writing skills
  • An interest in the voluntary sector would be highly appreciated.

Terms and conditions:

  • Full-time internship (39 hours per week)
