Overview
The Support Services Director (SSD) is responsible for strategic leadership and comprehensive
management across diverse support functions such as organizational management, financial
governance, compliance, human resources, and grants administration, stakeholder and board
engagement. As an integral part of the Center’s leadership team, the SSD shapes and
implements the Center’s strategic direction, aligning the functions and goals of the support
services with the Center’s broader mission and objectives.
Responsibilities
The following are the specific duties and responsibilities of the Support Services Director:
- Strategic oversight and management of support services functions
- Provide strategic oversight and management of various support services functions, including organizational management, financial management, compliance, HR, grants administration, stakeholder engagement, and board engagement.
- Lead the development and implementation of short-term and long-term goals, objectives, strategies, and tactics to achieve the organization’s mission and objectives.
- Identify and recommend strategies for improvement and innovation within support services.
- Align support services functions with the organization’s overall strategic direction in collaboration with the Management Committee.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of reports and deliverables to the Executive Director and the Management Committee.
- Organizational Management
- Oversee the implementation of strategies aimed at reducing employee turnover and increasing engagement.
- Collaborate with HR Officer to shape talent management initiatives, ensuring attraction, retention, and development of high-performing employees.
- Establish productivity and efficiency metrics, and lead regular performance reviews for the organization.
- Financial Management
- Guide financial strategy and operations to ensure sustainability and compliance with budgetary guidelines.
- Oversee the timely and accurate delivery of financial reports for informed decision-making and transparency.
- Direct the development and execution of cost-saving initiatives and financial control measures.
- Grant Administration
- Oversee the grant-giving process, ensuring compliance with the Center’s grant requirements and regulations.
- Supervise the timely and accurate disbursement of grants, supporting program implementation.
- Direct the development and implementation of grant management and monitoring initiatives.
- Oversee grant-related audits to ensure compliance with regulations and guidelines.
- Human Resources Management
- Provide oversight for the recruitment, training, and development processes to maintain a skilled workforce.
- Work with the HR Officer to set and monitor employee performance and productivity metrics.
- Oversee the development and implementation of compensation and benefits programs, fostering employee attraction and retention.
- Compliance Management
- Lead the development of regulatory compliance initiatives, ensuring adherence to all legal and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the timely and accurate delivery of compliance reports Direct the development and implementation of risk management strategies.
- Board Engagement
- Foster effective communication with the Board, ensuring they remain informed about the Center’s progress, challenges, and achievements.
- Coordinate Board meetings and assist with the development and implementation of effective governance policies.
- Oversee compliance of Board activities with relevant legal and regulatory requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and steer stakeholder engagement strategies, maintaining positive relationships with all relevant parties.
- Oversee stakeholder needs assessments and address stakeholder expectations in collaboration with the appropriate teams.
- Support project teams in maintaining positive stakeholder relationships
Qualifications
- Graduate of Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Management, Accounting, Finance, Human Resources, or a related field.
- Seven (7) years of experience in a non-profit or similar sector:
- strategic planning and management, including knowledge of best practices;
- financial management, including budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis;
- HR management, including knowledge of national labor laws, employee relations, performance management, and recruitment strategies; and
- experience in stakeholder engagement, including relationship-building,
communication, and advocacy skills.
- Five (5)years of experience in non-profit or similar sector:
- creating and implementing effective organizational structures, policies, and
procedures; - grant administration, including grant application review, and fund management;
- compliance management, with expertise in regulatory requirements and reporting; and
- board engagement, including board governance and operations
